my pioneer vsx came with a set up mic, i will download and try to take measurements soon. thanks guys.

It's always great to have some context, even before taking the measurements.

You can start near the bottom of page 11:

http://www.harman.com/EN-US/OurCompa...dioScience.pdf

There are other good sources, too, which you can search for if you want.

Search here - there have been many threads about REW.

The author's home forum for this product is at www.hometheatershack.com.

There are also tools like TrueRTA and SMAART that do similar things - you might find some tips in threads related to them.

REW is the software, you also need some hardware ( measurement mic, phantom power, cables, boom stand or tripod, computer, etc).

Read the REW help guide it comes with.
99.9% of your q's will be covered there.

If you have specific q ask, I've been thru the learning q and will help.

It's always a pleasure to read something from someone who's done the experimentation, research, validating, and publishing among peers.

..and those who chose to remain willfully ignorant, will refer to it as a "Harman subwoofer ad" .

cheers,
