While I've been heavily into advanced computing and video streaming, audio always took a backseat. Up until now, I've always been a renter, so didn't want to go through the trouble of setting up a system in a temporary location. Those days are over. I now have my own home, and put together my first surround system. For speakers I have the Andrew Jones Pioneers, FS51s, CS21, and BS21s. My AVR is a Denon 1613. I've run the Audyssey setup, got a few bad connections remedied, and now I want to take this thing for a spin.

So, what are some good choices to really test it out? What are some movies with particularly good audio? When my friends come by, what should I put in to show them what my new baby can do? smile.gif

Do you have SACD or DVDA capabilities for the music? I so you can't go wrong with the 5.1 mix of dark side of the moon on SACD. Breathtaking. For movies I have found these pretty great so far on blu ray

- Casino Royale
- The Dark Knight
- The Matrix
- Cream reunion at RAY
- Live Free or Die Hard

The latest Star Trek movie is a very good choice because at the start has music and then turns into heavy action scenes. And then in the middle of that action quiets down.

Book of Eli has some wonderful gunshot scenes with amazing dynamics.

Tron has been mentioned and is indeed an excellent choice (the first fight scene). It is also a wonderful mix of music and effects.

Try the opening chapter of 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon'. One of the most agressive surround mixes I've ever heard, with sounds moving left to right and front to back seamlessly.

I'd look at the top two tiers in the BD picture quality thread, find a good movie and buy it if you don't already own it. Hope you also have a plasma biggrin.gif
