There has been sporadic on-going discussion about this subject in a thread titled "Warner Announces Hi-Rez Initiative" (link) since May 2011.

This is still moving ahead. See Rolling Stone blip in December.

Still nothing on whether this is a lossy or lossless file type. Looks to be some type of pocket streamer with his proprietary device and large cloud library of music but I wonder what was wrong with flac - why a new file format?
