I've made some files, in 5.1 wav format, that will allow you to test the imaging between your front right/right surround and front left/left surround channels all your speakers.

This is one way to get the most optimal imaging, for that one of a kind immersive surround ambiance.
(pretty self explanatory, but play these tracks and adjust your speaker distance on the fly, until the image appears perfectly centered on the wall between the two speakers.)

With personal experience, Audyssey calibrated everything for me, but the rear channels due to my horrible room layout, sounded wrong. So I manually set the distance on each side and basically my results were very obvious, and I'm happy I tweaked them.

New pack includes: (Not in list below, but "Front Only" is also included)

I can make more on request, I can do any tone, any speaker combo, and white brown blue noises.

Which version of Audyssey did you use?

How does the distance of the surrounds set by Audyssey differ from the actual distance and your final adjusted distance?

Would be useful to have the FL/FR too for testing imaging in the centre, and the height and wide channels.

Audiosceptics accept audio trials using 25 people. A recent Oxford study with over 353,000 patient records from 639 separate clinical trials shows for every 1,000 people taking diclofenac or ibuprofen there would be 3 additional heart attacks, 4 more cases of heart failure and 1 death every year.

I have 2eq only. However, audyssey had them set at 9ft and 8ft, and after listening to some music in all channel stereo, I found that setting to 3ft and 1ft gave me a much more open distant feeling. My setup is plagued with the dipoles only able to be placed in the very corner of each wall, too close to listening position as well as my room having a huge open wall on the right wall. I'm sure audyssey did the best it could, but my room and rear placement is the issue. Listening position is a couch directly against the wall as well.

Before the rear imaging was off and sounded as if it was directly in your ear.

I can do the LR and RR combo, but there's no way to do height or wide fronts in audition.

Hi porschedrifter,

I downloaded and played both your files via my laptop connected to Denon AVR-2310 by HDMI. I used Foobar2000 as the player. Here's a screenshot:

The levels of your files seem to play at 0dB.

So, with my curent and untouched Audyssey trims I got good result with imaging between L & LS as well as R & RS. Seems Audyssey did a good job in my case for setting up speaker trims. I won't describe my room, but if interested it's easier to see pix, link in my sig.

A good tool to verify the auto setup results. Thank you. Take care.

Hi porschedrifter again,

Since you were kind enough to offer your "services", could you please make another wav files that demos the panorama effect in 5.1, i.e. test tone would start at say Left Surround -> move to Left -> Center -> Right -> Right Surround and back with a slow duration (30 sec or so) making it possible to listen carefully not only to how the test tone moves around in the room, but more interestingly how seamless the pano effect is.

I remember once Chris Kyriakakis (of Audyssey) explained that due to the positioning of our ears on our head (and other psychoacoustic matters) while the front stage LCR imaging can be made perfectly seamless, the same does not really apply to our hearing when it comes to the sides, i.e. between L and FS and R and RS.

Let's see.

Thanks in advance. smile.gif

Yes I can do that, I'll also make the center surround image test. Adobe audition is pretty cool! It allows you to do all of this, key-frame and move the sound around what ever way you want.
Very cool.cool.gif

Audition is very cool. I remember when it was Cool Edit Pro (before Adobe bought it).

Strangely they removed tone generation with CS5, and brought it back with CS6.

That's fine (LR + RF), I don't mean you do the height and wide channels, the receiver with DPLIIz and DSX does that. Not sure how it'll work out because these modes will forcefully engage DPLII for a 2CH input signal. If that doesn't work out it'll still have some use for testing centre imaging (and perhaps the sub and XO points too).

Ah, read that too quickly, I might as well do all the channels each since it's easy enough, I'll post back when I have the link up.

You can also try this:

Look for "DTS HD-Master Audio Sound Check 7.1 (Lossless)"

Tried downloading the new pack just now. The first try only gave me a 9.55MB zip file, when I tried to unzip it I got an error saying 'bad zip header found' and it seems to contain only one file, Right Front and Surround.wav, size 138,451,820 bytes. The second try gave me a 6.08MB file with the same error and file name.

Panorama: simply paste together individual wav files for each active channel in the desired sequence.

I hate to bring up an old thread but does anyone know where I can get (or even make) something like this? I know the 5.1 Audio Tool Kit as it but that's a little pricey.

The file no longer exists on depositfiles.

If you can't find them, can you give a quick run down on how you made them?

Is it just a mono pink noise file that you located to the desired channels simultaneously using an audio program (looks like you used Adobe Audition)?
