My goal is to run two subwoofers from one output without a reduction in output. Obviously, A simple RCA splitter will not accomplish this so I had the following idea. I just don't know if it will actually work, so if I could get some feedback on this it would be nice.

My idea is to take my RCA output and convert it to optical and split the optical signal which will be sent to the subwoofers and converted back to RCA at the end.

My logic behind this is that the optical signal does not degrade when split, though I don't have any confirmation of this I would expect it to work because optical is simply data and not current, thus nothign should be lost. Am I correct in my assumptions?

No.

A simple splitter, which puts the high impedance loads in parallel, will accomplish this with no degradation in sound.

Splitting light is far more complicated, and the conversions to and from digital are not necessary and will possibly result in a reduction of sound quality.

because optical is simply data and not current

On TOSLINK it's light, on coax it's current, not that it matters.
