Is Audyssey the only technology that calibrates/equalizes the subwoofer? I'm looking into buying a new receiver in the near future, and I need to know the scoop. Thanks.

There are companies that make EQ device for subwoofers too. One of the best in the market is the DSpeaker Antimode 8033 series.

It would probably be cheaper to just buy a receiver with Audyssey, correct?

Since you are buying a receiver anyway, sure. Be certain to get one with MutliEQ or better. Audyssey 2EQ that comes on some lower model Onkyos does not EQ the sub.

It's just hard to pay an extra $100 to get Audyssey MultiEQ.

External subwoofer equalizers (needed to make up for not having MultEQ) cost more than $100.

Get a Denon. They use MultiEQ in all but their lowest model.

The current XX13 Denon models will likely go on sale in late spring/early summer when the new XX14 models come out. If you have a receiver to use right now, wait until then. Or look for factory refurbished/factory warrantied Denon models at accessories4less.com

"MultEQ." There is no I in MultEQ. When CTO Chris K used to frequent these boards, he'd slap a dollar fine on people for adding the I. I doubt anybody ever paid, but if you are worried about your karma, just send a buck along to Chris at Audyssey. smile.gif

To the OP, AFAIK, the Anthem receivers' ARC EQs the sub, but they tend to be a touch pricer than the Japanese models. My impression is that Trinnov does too and AFAIK it's Sherwood or nothing for that technology.
