I'm needing advice for setting up this receiver with a blu ray player & directv.
My question is with no HDMI on the receiver, am I better off to run player & box straight to the projector with HDMI? What about audio? Not sure what my best choice is component, coaxial, optical? Is that even possible to run HDMI video & then a separate line to the receiver for audio?

Thanks in advance for your help,

-Boots

It would be like there is some other choice?

Of course you will run the player and box straight into the projector or TV. Or else you get an ACR with HDMI which need not be a big investment.

The sound that goes with component video is usually analog. If the projector is your master switching point then you are stuck with whatever audio output that it has. Otherwise, you end up doing double switching which is some kind of nightmare for knowledgeable people, and mission impossible for casual users.

YOu might think about this for a little while and the new AVR will look better and better! ;-)

Yes you can do that if your projector has a useful audio output. Since you gave no model number for the projector we're all flying blind.

Your receiver is apparently a legacy piece and may need to be errr, reassigned.

I'm looking at the Panasonic PT AR100U projector.
Wasn't thinking of terms of running the audio to the projectir & back to the receiver.
I was thinking HDMI to projector from sat & blu ray,
& opticall audio from sat & blu ray to receiver?
