Hey all.
I got my self some fronts JBL ES20 JBLESC25. rated at 60-40hz center 80-40hz
Using mcacc. I know they have 5" woofers in the speakers, but while i was watching transformers the dark moon there were some missing low end bass to my jbles 250p sub. It sounded great with my hsu's and i may have to put them back up front. The owners manual recommends to boost the sub cross over 120hz because of their size and its recommended for smaller speakers. Right now i 'am using 80.x-over when mcacc set it up for. I have messed with built in sub at 120hz, but couldnt tell any difference. what would you recommend? leave sub at 150hz with LFE switch enabled and receiver at 100hz?..

If they have 5-inch drivers, they certainly can put out down to 80 Hz.

Setting the crossover any higher means you have only mono sound from the sub at the midrange frequencies, which ruins the sound. That does not make any sense.

Stick with 80 Hz, and make sure the filter on the sub is also set to 80 so it does not operate any higher than that.

They have 2 5 inch drivers. My usual highly optimistic computer model says this is about as good as they could possibly be:

Freq,Hz Max SPL, DB

10 69
20 81
30 88
40 93
50 97
60 100
70 102
80 105
90 107
100 109
110 110
120 112
130 113
140 115
150 116
160 117
170 118

The crossover setting would be based on what sort of expectations you have:

(1) Nice home system - 60 Hz

(2) Above average system - 110 Hz

(3) High end system - 140-170 Hz.
