On this cold windy Canadian night there I lay in my overly comfy bed watching Spartacus for the first time, with my Audio Technica ATH-A700( headphones) snug on my ash brown hair I was ready for total sound immersion at the end if the episode a flashback scene in a tent where Spartacus and his wife lay on a windy night, the background the sound very immersive.
Then my window blinds started rattling and scratching on the wall and it felt very real as if I were IN the tent it just worked with the scene so well.

So my question, has anyone experimented with mixing sound for a headphone and speaker combination like 5.1, 7.1, etc to emulate my moment?

If done like my experience the sound can be mixed focused toward a headphone and the speakers and sub would add detail that gives a depth to a movie watching experience that is potentially mind blowing.

Thoughts?

This is kind of similar....

... but then if you just want a nice surround sound experience with tactile bass to boot, then why not just go for a regular 5.1 or 7.1 setup?
