My surround dilemma: I find monopoles to be too directional(at times) and dipoles to be too diffuse(at times). I like some of the merits of both but both I find to be compromises when reproducing the surround array experienced at the commercial theater. So what about a line array?

A line array is purported to have very uniform vertical dispersion characteristics when oriented vertically.

So my question is: How would this speaker perform as a surround speaker if it were oriented horizontally spanning the seating positions? This should give uniform horizontal SPL dispersion across multiple seating positions.

Has anyone tried this?

How would it work?

Member "Nightlord" did some neat stuff with line array on side wall if my memory is correct, hopefully he chimes in here.

Have you tried Paradigm ADP's? Might be your cup of tea.

I just looked up his stuff, looks like he did an actual surround array. I'm curious how an actual line array would perform......

No, I haven't tried the paradigm stuff. They do look like nice speakers and pricey too. I currently have but don't use any more, Emotiva ERD-1s. I went back to monopoles but sometimes they really bark into my ear and I can tell right where the speaker is located.

My surrounds are well behind and cross fired at the outside farthest seat and I still feel its too directional.

I currently only have one row of seating setup but have the other seats in the garage so eventually there will be two rows......
