I am trying to connect a wireless headset to my system. The STB is connected to a tuner/amplifier via an HDMI cable and the amplifier is connected to the TV also through an HDMI cable.
If I connect the transmitter to the headset plug on the amplifier I get the audio on the headset but (of course) no audio on the speakers. If I use the RCA audio out connectors on the amplifier, I do not get any audio. Also, I do not get any audio signal from the TV RCA outputs.
I saw in another thread that the HDMI cable disables the analog inputs. Does it also disable the analog outputs?
Solved my own question.
Fiddled with the STB setup function.
When I set the audio output to Stereo (not TV speakers), the option to Stereo (not Matrix), I got sound out of the audio RCA plugs.
Good to hear. I despair when I think of how non-enthusiasts must encounter the same kind of problems and are bewildered by them. With the complexity of routing signals and doing proper setup of an AVR in even relatively simple living room HTs these days, it's a wonder most folks get any sound or video at all. I suspect many of them punt and hire a pro installer to do it for them. It's a shame that watching TV has gotten so complicated for most.

And the problems can be such that, even when a non-enthusiast finds a good resource like this forum, we're at a loss to know how to fix it.
