Just moved into a home that has 16 gauge speaker wire already run through the walls connect to a wall plugin outlet. My question is can I run a short 2ft 12 gauge wire from my receiver into the wall outlet, thereby connecting to the 16 gauge wire in the wall.

Will this affect the sound in any way or cause a hazard. I also have some 14 gauge lying around I can use. I'm just all out 16 gauge and I'm lazy! biggrin.gif Your opinions are greatly appreciated.

Running 12 or 14ga for that two feet is no problem at all. Some could argue it's less resistance for that two feet! rolleyes.gif

But it really won't make any difference. Personally I would just use the 14ga because it's thinner and easier to manage for two feet.

No, whether you use 12 or 14g.

Given the short length, you can use anything from many zero power bus (copper conductor as big as your wrist) to probably even 24 gauge.
