I am a rank novice, so please forgive any misused vocabulary or misunderstood concepts, thanks!

 

I have a pair of Behringer TRUTH B2030A Active-Powered monitors and a Lexicon Alpha mixer connected via USB directly to a USB port on my PC. I used this almost exclusively for listening pleasure, not for mixing. Here is my question.

 

Does it make any sense to add a PCI based internal sound card like the ASUS Xonar Essence STX TLS and then run cables from the output of the sound card to the 1/4" input on the Lexicon mixer? Will that improve my sound or does the Lexicon Alpha already contain a sound card internally. 

 

ANY help or explanations would be greatly appreciated.

No, it won't make any difference. The mixer is handling the digital to analog conversion.

Then can you explain to me why the huge price difference, is it just quality? The Lexicon Alpha was around $55 the Asus Sound Card closer to $150 and for the Asus external model it is $600

The $55 price for the Lexicon appears to be a close-out price. My sources show a mark down from $199 MSRP which might work out to $149.95 street price.

One thing you must understand is that in the audio world, price and performance aren't necessarily aligned. Also, the sound card has a surround processor on board.
