Hi guys. I'm a long time reader, first poster. I've been reading threads here since we bought our house, mainly trying to figure out the most efficient way to place our home theatre equipment in our family room. Our home is a 1960's split level with the family room on the lower level. The area is quite large but oddly laid out that makes it very inefficient for a home theatre. We're fighting with large windows (placed high in the room), an angled fireplace and a large soffit & main beam that splits the room.

My setup is:

Toshiba 40XV645U

Denon AVR-590

Polk TSi500 Mains

Polk CS20 Center

Polk TSx220B Rears

Polk PSW505 Sub

Asustor AS-302T as a media server

As for furniture we have a large (comfy!) L-shaped sectional.

Below is a layout of the space:

Currently I've attached the TV to the telepost with a post mount. It's working OK, but the only thing that I'm not a fan of is that the TV is very close to the couch making the space feel cramped and the soundstage is very spread apart.

Something I've considered is knocking out the closet and mounting the TV there. I'm not 100% sold on this idea because of the loss of the storage space as well as the telepost being right in the way of viewing the TV. To fix that then we're talking replacing the main beam of the house with a steel beam. ($$$$)

An idea I had to try and make better use of the space is to mount the TV below the window next to the fireplace and fire the speakers the long way down the room. Because it's such a small TV I would move the couch forward (leaving a space behind the couch for some unknown purpose). Anyone see any issues with this plan?

Is there a better plan for my equipment that I haven't thought of yet?

Thanks for reading & any help you can provide.

It probably the best option, w/o removing the bathroom or making it smaller.

Custom, one of a kind pair, MJC212 mains, mod PT800 center, PT800 surrounds, SUB1500s. Parasound P7, Citation 19, Parasound HCA2205A, HK AVR3600, Marantz TT, Samsung BD player, Denon DVD-A player, MacBook Pro w/ Dirac Stereo Suite.
