I have an Onkyo 818 and recently purchased an Emotiva XPA-3 for my front 3. I'll be adding a set of front wides now but I'm wondering are these typically considered more of a surround speaker or an extension of the L/R? Is it vital to have the wides be in the same speaker family as the L/R? I'd like to use something cheaper if possible, I'm currently upgrading my front 3 and would rather put more into those than spend too much on the wides. Thanks for looking.

I wouldnt use cheap speakers or a completely different type for wides but you are right to focus the bulk of your budget on the front 3. Its much more important that they match and are of good quality.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

Thanks, I've never had a 9.2 setup before so I wasn't sure how much the wide l/r speakers come into play but I don't want to spend too much on them. Guess I'll play around with it a bit.

When you get a better idea of what speakers you want for LCR then better suggestions can be made for wides and surrounds.

I already have polk tsi100s for my 4 surrounds and I'm eyeing the polk rtiA7 for the mains but not sure if I want to keep polk or not. I've never heard anything from paradigm or b&w but there's only one place I can hear them in person and it's not all that local. Might be worth a drive though, I'd like to be under $1500 for l/c/r.
