What is are effects of possible fat dirt in input for headphone?

Hello all,

When holding my Iphone there accumulated some dirt on the corner next to the input for an headphone. I rubbed the a bit fat dirt loose and possible a bit of it went into the input.

I am curious if it can effect the frequency response or volume of my headphone if dirt is between the headphone jack and the inputs inside. Or is it all or nothing: Sound or no sound, but never an effect on frequency response or volume. Could the bas become more domimant compared to mid and high, thus the spectrum becomes coloured?

I am looking forward to your expertise.

Electrical contacts are largely an all or nothing thing, especially the good ones.

The contacts in headphone jacks wipe over each other when you slide the plug in, and the wiping tends to clean the contacts.

Thanks for your answer.

You mention 'especially the good ones', then what happens with the 'less good ones' ? Can sound then become coloured? Or are they by definition coloured because the less quality, thus no additional effect of dirt? Is Iphone 5S input + Grado RS1 jack good enough? Why 'largely' all or nothing, is there a part all or nothing and a part gradual?

Good to hear that if there would be an effect, by the friction between the mechanics it will solve it self.

The signal is absent or intermittant.

Very unlikely.

The usual reason that a digital player sounds colored is probably not dirt on the headphone jack.

Very likely so.

You are being totally unreasonable by asking over and over again for a perfect answer when I'm thousands of miles away from the equipment.

If my answers up to this point aren't good enough, don't bother me any more! :-(
