Audio feed from Asus media player, can you explain ?

hello guys,

i been using an Asus Media player HDP-R1 to feed an Av receiver system - http://www.cnet.com/products/thomson...channel/specs/ - that has 2 digital conections available.

When i use the media player and feed a movie ( mkv´s with DTS audio codec ) the digital link works, and the receiver "scream".
When i try to feed the receiver with audio only ( mp3, aac, m4a ) using the digital link, it does not play. I have to shift the source using an analog input only.

Can you explain why this is hapening ?

thanks for any input !!

Are you using the HDMI or the SPDIF connection?

If SPDIF, did you enable the SPDIF output (see page 3-7 of your owners manual)?

hello Alan,

my AV receiver is quite old, do not have HDMI.
I have hook the media player using the SPDIF outpu. Since i have used it for movies with true 5 chaneles audio, i do not change settings, but i will look it up !!

I am on the virgo to acquire an used sound card so i can feed with signal to the receiver. Im not sure how the 2 digital sound processing ( first made by sound card chipset, second made by receiver chipset ) will behave !

Did you look at the owners manual?? You need to try SPDIF LPCM, you are most likely set to SPDIF RAW now.

It's not clear from the OM, but you may lose the ability to playback multichannel files....you'll just have to give it a go and see what happens.

Hi Alan,

i read the OM of the receiver itself - http://www.theatresystem-manual.com/...n_DPL660HT.pdf - and i believe it have DTS and Dolgy Digital / Prologic II.
It should handle an audio source in 2 chanels, and activate all speakers, and it does that only in analog mode. Im looking to clear this out, since i might start to acquire audio files in Ac3 or ACC file format from spotify to playback on this system. Not sure this will work using only analog mode

Again, if you set the media player to output SPIDF LPCM it should work.
