B&W in wall wiring and receiver help

Hello my name is Josh and this is my first post in this forum, thanks to all who could help me out.

A little backstory: moved into a new house about 6 months ago, just started thinking of hooking up some audio, as I'm growing tired of my computer speakers.

I see that my living room has 4 in-wall speakers, take off the grills and see these:

I did some research and believe they are Bowers & Wilkins Signature 7

Out of the wall next to my Tv there are 8 wires coming out of the wall, 2 thin black, 2 thing red, 2 thick clear/white, and two thik green wires.

The thin wires are wrapped around the thicker wire.

I would like to know if this wiring is ok?
What receiver would I need for this?
Wattage? Impedance?

Thanks again for the help,
Josh

Nice speakers - too bad they are wallunits, I'd rather put them someplace else.

Speaker Info

The wires will work.

Wire is wire according to the scientists here

(I only barely disagree).

The thin wire is probably the last guy's experiment with biwiring.

I'll be back later...

You can use a 9V battery to see which wires are connected to which speakers - very quickly touch and remove a pair of black and red wires to the (-) and (+) terminals on the battery - the speaker connected to those wires should make a clicking noise - then label those wires with a piece of tape.

Any AVR (Audio Video Receiver) should be able to drive those speakers - it really depends on what kinds of modern features you want (networking, streaming services, bluetooth, etc) as to which AVR you choose. If you are just going to hook up some standard audio sources (MP3 player, phone, CD player, etc) or a digital source (optical digital audio from TV) just about any modern AVR will do the job. Check out this one:

DENON AVR-E300 5.1 3D Networking Receiver AirPlay - $189 free shipping

The heavy wires are probably the speaker wires. Try two of them at a time until you find the ones that are connected to the speakers.

To verify this use a 1.5 volt C or D cell, NOT a 9 volt battery.

When you connect it to the actual pair of speaker wires, you should see the cone move in or out slightly.

The thin wires may have been for some sort of future "home automation" setup that never was implemented.
