Receiver LFE Lowpass setting

Is there a rule on how high to go. Reason i ask, is because the FR was quite rough above 60hz once i settled on a suitable sub location. My mains are capable of a 60hz XO.......

With little EQ the FR is 10hz-60hz.......

I have not adjusted it, its still @120 hz

As of Feb 20th still looking for a Marantz SR7010

Not quite sure what you are asking....is this the LPF for LFE you are concerned about or is it the crossover?

From your comments, it sounds like you have measured your response (REW?)...can you post up some graphs?

Sorry about that... The Lowpass of the LFE. I've read about keeping it at 120hz, which seems high for a subwoofer (LFE) channel.

I will do some measuring and saving of those files this weekend. I use an OmniMic.

The LPF for LFE only sets the cutoff for content in the LFE channel. Some movies do have content up to 120hz although they are rare. Some folks like to set it to 80hz. FWIW, I've tried mine at both and found no difference.

The crossovers for your speakers are a whole 'nother thing.

There are some interesting thoughts on LPF for LFE contained in the Audyssey FAQ in this post.

TL;DR: Technically, 120Hz is where it should be set to get all the content at the "correct" level. Real world, several respected authorities have advocated setting it lower anyway. You aren't missing much by applying the filter lower if your subwoofer performance requires it. You might even benefit by cutting out some subjectively less desirable content.

Yes, i totally agree, the main XO is a different animal. Wondering if everyone sets theirs to the usual 120hz
