Howdy from Austin, y'all.
I used to have another handle on here years ago, but can't seem to dig it up, so I re-registered.
That's probably apropos, as my knowledge bin is a bit rusty.
My long-time wife and I have parted ways (bummer), but it's allowing me to rebuild my music listening system a bit. I'm a few weeks out from closing on a new house (thank god, as it seems to be a pro sport to buy houses here), but I'm flummoxed about how best to set up my system in my new living room, which is markedly different than my old one.
I have a high ceiling, with semi-open areas to the right and rear of the to-be speaker placement. Photo link here:
I can provide photos of the adjoining rooms if necessary, as well.
My questions are these:
1. Is there anything obvious I should be considering in this room layout in regard to bass traps, reflection points, etc.? I've read a few things about high ceilings here, but that brings me to point/question number 2.
2. I want to set up my room for the best listening possible within reason, but also am unlikely to treat it as a dedicated listening room. I've got kids, and am not adverse to the idea of at some point having a nice lady friend again. What I'm getting at is that I don't want giant panels hanging from the living room ceiling. However, I'd love any advice on how to best setup my room and still have it disguised as a place where someone might want to join me for a party, or play board games, blah, blah. Y'know, all that petty stuff.
3. Thanks so much for y'all's patience, and it's good to be back on board and thinking about this again.
p.s. My plan, for the near future, is to purchase an Oppo 105D and a pair of Goldenear Triton Sevens to go with my old reliable Emotiva LPA-1 amp. I should have all the equipment assembled in the next 60 days. A modest (by AVS standards) setup, but one I hope will allow me to decompress and really immerse myself in some good music a few times a week, as well as a reasonable setup for my kids to watch movies on every now and then.
TIA again.
