I've recently purchased an Onkyo HT-S770B home-theatre-in-a-box setup and have a question about the setup. Since the majority of DVDs are simply straight DTS or DD, the receiver has an option to fill in the rear centre channel (upconvert the 5.1 to 6.1).
When this option is enabled on a Dolby Digital soundtrack, the receiver displays "Dolby D EX" to signify it is outputing Dolby Digital EX. When it is enabled on a DTS soundtrack, the receiver displays "DTS+DolbyEX" to signify it is outputing a combination of DTS and Dolby Digital EX. By default, this setting is on Auto. It seems to arbitrarily pick to upconvert. I haven't been able to find a pattern, but DTS rarely upconverts. Dolby Digital almost always does.
My question is this: should I leave this option set to On? Do I want the receiver (HT-R520) to be upconverting my DVDs to 6.1?
Thanks in advance.
