Long time lurker. Great forum and need help with a puzzling situation.

I just activated my dish network receiver Vip 622 with a DVR. All my SD channels have audio but all my HD channels have no audio! Cant figure out what is wrong. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this? This is what I have for a system.

1)Dish Vip 622
2)LG blu-ray/HD DVD player
3)Denon AVR-4806 Receiver
4)LG 71 inch plasma TV 71PY1M

Everything works fine but the audio output for the HD channels on the satellite TV.

Again, much thanks to all for a great forum. I have learned a lot.

I didn't have the exact same problem but with an new Sony XBR4 and a new dvd player, I didn't sound via HDMI. After a lot of looking through menus, I found out it was disabled in the DVD player set up. Enabled it and bam! See if that could be the case with ViP622.

hit the menu button. then arrow down to setup. then arrow down to audio. The audio selection should be on PCM/DOLBY DIGITAL. to be honest out of the box it should have been that way. PM me if you can't find it or if thats not the order of things in the menu. Its been a little while and sometimes I just forget the menu order

How is your Vip 622 connected to your receiver?

I have the same problem with VIP 722. No HD audio when connected to receiver by optical cable. I get audio with component cables, but obviously thats analog. I set the audio setting to PCM/Dolby Digital but didnt matter. Receiver is Harmon Kardon AVR 55

Maybe it's trying to send audio over HDMI...?

"Vintage" is good for wine, not for A/V equipment.

I have my ViP622 connected via HDMI to my TV and it's optical connected to my receiver.

I had no issues, but I can say confidently that it's broadcasting audio over both HDMI and Optical, because I need to keep my TV on volume 0

The VIP622 does send audio over HDMI along with the video, or you can grab the audio via Optical(Has Output). I have a VIP622 and just set it up via HDMI to my new Sony STR-DG910 HDMI receiver, and everything works(DD7.1 when available) via just HDMI

I am not familiar with your Denon receiver - does it have HDMI inputs or are you running the HDMI directly to your TV, and then just audio via optical. It sounds like the Denon receiver is not seeing the audio stream for the input your using(Its got to be assigned in the setup)

Lastly, when did your VIP622 get installed, as it may not have the latest firmware yet(Dish pushes them out on their schedule) and there were alot of problems with HDMI audio on older firmwares. You should be on L441.

Just throwing out some ideas

Sorry for the delayed response. I tried everything with the vip 622 and nothing helped. I have HDMI cables running thru a Denon AVR-4806CI receiver and I tried optical inputs from the vip622 to the denon receiver and still nothing. At the end I just got a new VIP 211 and everything is well now! Thanks for all the responses, I appreciate all the help.
