Here is a list of the equipment that we have and need hooked up:
-Sony KV-36XBR450 HDTV (1080i/480p/480i) (No HDMI, just 2 sets of component and others)
-Sony 80GB Playstation 3
-Comcast Motorola HDTV cable box (No DVR) (with HDMI output)
-Onkyo TX-SR575 7.1 Surround Sound Reciever
-Bose Acoustimass 6 Home Theater Speakers (5.1)

We do have other equipment setup, like a CD player and VCR player, but the VCR doesn't need to go through the surround system and the CD changer is setup perfect.

This is what my initial plan was:
  • HD Box >>HDMI>> Onkyo Reciever >>Component>> TV
  • Playstation3 >>HDMI>> Onkyo Reciever >>Component>> TV
When looking through the instructions, I could not figure out how to get the reciever to understand that what goes in via HDMI I would like to come out through component.

If the above won't work, then I was thinking:
  • HD Box >>Component>> Onkyo Reciever >>Component>> TV
  • Playstation3 >>Component>> Onkyo Reciever >>Component>> TV

If anyone could lend me a helping hand, it would be great!

I fear that the reason I am not getting any replies is because I wasn't clear enough. Here is a picture of our room (a VERY rough picture!Nothing is to scale or lined up!).

Also, I want to know if I put two HDMI cables into the Onkyo system, if I can have it come out through component cables, NOT another HDMI cable!

I dont think it can do anything with the HDMI (webpage says HDMI passthrough/switching)

the upconversion refers to analog signals only.

also note that you will also need to connect an optical/coax digital connection for the audio

post in the receivers area for confirmation

Boo!

I'm not worried about the upconversion since both of the devices that will be using HDMI are already putting out 1080i (PS3 could do 1080P but the TV only does 1080i). Can it go in through HDMI and out through component?

And I do know about the audio connection. Which cable would you recommend for audio? Optical or Coax Digital?

I'd recommend looking for a glass optical cable on ebay that sells for about 20/m maximum.

Well, if HDMI to Component won't work, then I guess I won't need to worry about the seperate audio cable as component will handle that! Thanks!
