Found a bug! When I click on someones avatar it shows their profile but you can't back out. Have to kill the app

Oooooo! Multi-quote reply!
But after landing back on the page the quoted posts are still selected. I think they should be cleared

Suggestion: add a "Home" button to the menu at the bottom when you are in a forum. Then you don't have to back out so many times of you're way down on sub boards

Good catch on the profile thing - it was something I just changed and it caused the issue.

Grab the latest 1.0.2 from the same link and re-install. It will fix the profile issue.

Think I found a new bug. I tried setting 40 items per page. In forums I see 20, and in subscribed I still see 10 items per page.

Another bug... Notifications.
They get marked as read on the phone but apparently not on the actual profile, as I log in to my PC and all the same stuff is all shown as unread.

That is because AVSForum does not store thread reading data in the database. They are stored in cookies. So the cookies only exist on the phone or the browser.

Same goes if you log in via two computers - just a limitation of the forum.

Not so sure about this. I use 2 computers often - home and work - and both of them can notice when I read a subscribed thread from the other computer.

Fyi, first post on the android app. Working well so far on a samsung moment.

That is pretty much a technical impossibility... trust me, I've been working with vBulletin for years. ;-)

Unless you have some sort of cookie sync application working where it syncs your cookies between multiple computers.

If the vBulletin forum has database thread marking enabled, then yes, you will be able to browse from wherever and have correct thread counts, but the issue is this is a huge performance hit on the backend database because every time someone reads a new page in a thread, it is doing a INSERT or UPDATE into the database to track the last read timestamp, and when you scale that up to the millions of users on this forum, you are talking about a significant performance hit.

I disagree.

If this were true, if you read threads from one machine, then switched to another... All those same threads were shown as unread which is not true.

As the poster above, I can switch from work to home and it knows which threads I've read. It works this way on every single forum I use.

Only way it could be doing this is if it was storing that info in the database.

vBulletin also has a configured "cookie timeout" where it also looks at your last visit time and determines if it should start marking threads read as well.

You can test this out right now by using two different browsers (EG, one firefox, one IE, or one chrome and one firefox) logged into the forum as the same user.

Click on a thread that has unread posts in it with Firefox, then go check in the other browser. I guarantee that it will not show up as read in that browser. :-)

I've worked intimately with David on this forum and am 100% sure he does not have database thread marking turned on.

Either way! Thanks for all the great feedback from the App. I've fixed a few bugs that you guys have reported and implemented some features that have been reported.

If anyone else has any other comments please post them up. I intent to release the Android version this week barring any unforseen showstoppers that might pop up.

That could be. AVS Forum's unread notifications have never worked right for me, but on other vBul sites I frequent I have no issues...

Most smaller sites have database thread marking enabled. I tried talking David into trying it on this site (as it would make push notifications more accurate), but without knowing if it would bring the database servers to their knees, he rightfully rejected my idea. ;-)

I tried this and it didn't mark it read in the other browser as you said. It must be the cookie visit timeout that marks threads automatically as read that is making it appear as if it's keeping track between PCs, when in fact I'm potentially missing some unread subscriptions.

Bingo.

I frequent forums larger than this that write it to the database so I know it can be done but... I also respect the possibility of there not existing enough resources to do it.
Kindof a sore feature to be missing.

Not sure if this one has been mentioned, I just tried to click a link in a pm and it forced a shutdown. Tried it twice an got the same result. The link was to another discussion at AVS
