7.2 is my system.
Been here long, as 7.1 and switched to 7.2 in 2009.

Limits established to be exceeded.

Dang, I missed this poll. Anyways. I used to have 4.1, but then it died. I also realized I don't need more than 2.1 because I wear an analog bone conduction hearing aid that is only in mono (can't hear which direction for audios). I only care for clarity and bass. And yes, I am mostly deaf.

5.0 here, living in close quarters so just have floor standers with dual subs, no active sub for now.

Though planning to upgrade soon and will either go 3.1 or 5.1/5.2. When I upgrade I'm going to go for quality over quanity.

Actually, it depends "what" your front speakers are! Most systems do benefit from subs, but I agree that one off in the corner is mildly beneficial. It sounds excessive to those that don't understand acoustics, but realistically a good system should have 2 properly located subs! Once you hear a system that has been properly set up acoustically, you'll almost never be satisfied with a basic setup. To go without subs requires very high quality full range speakers with extra headroom in the amplifier to truly cover the bass! Today's trends are small profile systems that look sleek in the room, and to be honest, very very few will handle the bass even mediocre with one sub. But audio always comes down to "you like, what you like"! I just happen to love extreme dynamic systems. If I'm in the mood for a certain sound, my system will recreate it with ease. That is what I love about Home Theater/HiFi!

Good luck AVS folks in your endeavors!
Love the forum!

Apparently with my mighty 8 post count I am unworthy of voting...but I have 5.1 currently but that's not because I'm content and done. I just have to get another 2 speakers and a second sub....money being a glass ceiling to that happening right now.

In a few months I will have my 7.2 setup finished and done.

I think front 'presence' speakers would be better served going half way between the front L/R and the side surround rather than going between each front speaker and the centre. It would make a much wider wrap around type sound stage.

If you want 'higher' front sound........mount the centre speaker higher...presence just doesn't make sense to me.

Just my 2.01c aus

Hi I have a sonny kv34xbr800. I have replaced IC6501 and IC8002 I did solder in the sockets and installed new MCZ300ID Ices. The TV worked great for about a week then, back to the same thing not powering up and the seven blinking lights. I went back in and checked my solder job it looks good. Are there other parts that could be bad any help would be appreciated?

Thank you

Currently running a 9.2. I added height speakers to a 7.2 (two discreet sub channels on my SSP hence the .2) and like the effect of the heights. Would love to try wides but do not have space for them in my HT.

11.3 for me. Audyssey converts 5.1 to 11.x (7.1 plus wides and heights). I finally found a use for all my old speakers.

9.1 (soon to be 9.2)

Main 5.1 system is B&W 800 Matrix series speakers, supplementary speakers are modified (higher power woofers) Boston Acoustics in-walls, woofer is Sunfire EQ Signature. New sub will probably be custom 15" - 18" built into existing large LP/Laser Disc storage cabinet. Integra DHC-80.1 and Yamaha DSP-3000 synthesize the supplementary channels.

5.2 current, all diy speakers

7.2 in a couple of weeks when some jbl 8330's get here.

I have enough amp channels for 11.2 but my pre is only seven channel.

Hello All,

I remember when the Audio realm was a lot busier than it is now. The speaker companies were really pushing product and trying to make a case for the NEED for 2 effect speakers.

Seems to me that the 7.1 works in only the largest rooms, and then with special layout.

If for example someone wanted to do the whole "invisible" speaker in the wall, 7.1 would be pretty cool. Otherwise, when you keep adding speakers to a room the aesthetic detraction begins to be a bit much. Really, the 5.1 is almost there ^^now. It's just that we've gotten used to it.

5.1 with good speakers.

5.1 here, my living room arrangement doesn't allow for 7.1 or 9.1. As it stands now, my surrounds are like to my left and right. I use two towers for mains, matching center, two towers for rears and a sub. Anybody using wireless rears in their setup, if so how do they sound?

I use 4 plus a sub along with two amps. lsol

So you could call it 4.1

One amp for the two fronts + sub

another amp for the 2 rears......
