Dining room: 7.1
Media room: 11.1 plus a Buttkicker that hits every seat.
Home Theatre: 11.2 plus Buttkickers for every seat.

Audessey DSX does a good job of using 9.1/9.2, but I'll eventually upgrade to a DTS-Neo:X system that can use all 11 channels.

Rasta Linus likes this.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent post were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having read it.

Been running 7.1 since I got my first Logic-7 processor almost 10 years ago. Current setup is 7.1 plus Buttkickers.

It's not always about the 7.1 program material. My room has an open back wall into another room, and the rear surrounds help to acoustically close it off and solidify the surround image even on 5.1 material. YMMV with the size and shape of your room, obviously.

4.1. I have 4 large (tower) speakers and a subwoofer. Since I sit in the middle, I don't feel a need for a center.

And I feel slighted by the poll that 4 and 4.1 weren't choices!

I voted 7.1, but I use three subs.

Still technically a 7.1 setup since my subs are all connected to a single LFE channel.

I also have always had a 7.1 setup, however rarely have I used it as the only movie I have that's truly 7.1 is Up on Blu Ray. Sometimes I listen to All channel music, but that's different.

Count me as another asking for a 4.1 choice. Four-corner (quad music arrangement with identical small speakers, plus sub) in my principal setup, although I also share a 5.1 setup, which I will use with my MUSE decoder when I acquire the requisite LD player.

Set "audio" to 7.1 and click "filter". That'll give you an idea of what's currently out there.

It's pathetic that there aren't more 7.1 BD's available.

5 for the home theater (no sub, no desire for one) but most of the time, it's simply 2 channel music with my Celestion DL-8 Series 2's.

Home Theater: Yamaha RX-V990, Onkyo C-S5VL, Technics, SL-QL1, Celestion DL-8 Series II L/R, NHT center and rears

2-channel living room : Marantz PM8004, Marantz CD6004, Denon DP-23F, NHT SuperOnes

2-channel office: Marantz PM6004, NHT SuperOnes, internet radio fed by iPad Air

currently have 5.1 and don't see myself upgrading anytime soon...partially for space reasons but mostly due to the fact that I don't see the extra 2 side channels adding anything that will vastly improve the listening experience over a 5.1 setup

5.1, it's in my room, which isn't big at all, so I probably don't even need the 5.1.

The dining room speakers are for music. We went with in-walls and 7.1 in case we ever switched the functions of the media room and dining room. The only screen in the dining room is a 22" touchscreen for selecting music.

Sadly, 2.0 channel sound here, specifically a Sony CMT-EH10 bookshelf stereo. I'd really like to go out and get a 5.1 system, but I live in a condo where noise can be easily heard between suites. On top of it, I generally work the graveyard shift and am used to being up at night during my nights off when other people are asleep. Maybe in the future when I get into a condo with more of a sound-proof design, or a single family home, I will look at upgrading my sound system.

I have 2 Polk RT-3000p's for the fronts, 1 Polk 1000p for the center, 4 Polk 2000p's for the surrounds and backs, and 1 Paradigm Servo 15 for the LFE. All of the Polk's have powered subwoofer's built in. I only run the .1 channel to the Servo 15. I upgraded from 5.1 to 7.1 when I got the 3000p's.

I'm running 7.2 (with Surround Backs) but would be tempted to try 9.2 (with Front Heights) if I could afford some "matching" speakers. Front Wides will never be an option for me in my current room, as it's not big enough.
