AVS Poll - How many speakers in your setup?

Just a quick AVSForum poll on what AVS Forum members have setup for their speaker configuration. (If you have more than one setup, please just answer for the main setup as we know some of you have a listening room as well as a theater for example.)

Simple as that really, do you use 2 channel, 5.1, 7.1, or more?

Note...The .1 can be .2 etc when it comes to subs, we are just using the common terms.

Feel free of course to talk about this below.

Poll will auto close on 4/10/11

Until there are more movies with 7.1 (or higher), I'm sticking to my 5.1 setup in the 12x15 theater room.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent post were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having read it.

I ask every person I know that has a 7.1 setup to name a movie they've seen that takes advantage of the 7.1 speakers, and none of them has ever been able to answer me. I agree with the previous poster that if more material were available, I'd upgrade.

Set "audio" to 7.1 and click "filter". That'll give you an idea of what's currently out there.

7.1, but I use Front Wides instead of Rear Surrounds. I am going to be shifting to 9.1 in a few months...adding Front Heights.

I'll stick with the 5.1, figure you probably need a 40ft long room to here the 2 side channels added in the 7.1, seperate from the front and rear.

I have a 7.1 system with the movie 3:10 to Yuma being the only one using a 7.1 LPCM track on it. When I bought the system I wanted to begin with the 7.1 so I wouldn't have to add it later on when I buy more movies recorded in 7.1. This will save me a headache later on in rewiring and setting up.

I have a 7.1 system but also 2 passive subwoofers in the mix so it's a 7.3 kinda sorta.

I took the red pill.

9.4 baby

LCRs, 4 side surrounds, 2 back surrounds, and 4 dual 15"s subs.

God loves me, but everyone else thinks I'm an a$$hole.

Almost all Lionsgate Blurays are 7.1. Regardless, a good receiver will matrix the 5.1 into 7.1 and will sound amazing and not fake.

I have a mixed set of 5.1 speakers. I hardly ever use the setup, but maybe that'll change now that I've upgraded all the video components, including an Oppo BDP-93. I have an issue with the center channel in my HT receiver, so I sometimes just bypass it and go with a phantom center.

I don't see any need to go 7.1. As it is, my rears are on the side of the primary seating and not behind. There's no place for me to put another pair.

7.1: in Living room
7.1: dedicated theater room
9.2: bedroom (Pink Floyd listening zone) and a room longer than 20

9.1 Both Cars

Isn't it time someone promoted quality as value?

7.3

(Three SVS cylinder subs (the last corner has an entry door and closet door too close to the actual corner, if not for this; would have 7.4)

That's actually the proper position for 5.1, the surrounds at your side. It's a common misconception that they should be behind you. You add the behind speakers with a 7.1 layout.

Agreed. I have a Denon AVR-988 for my pre/pro and it does matrix 5.1 into the back surrounds. Once you get 7.1 it really is hard to go back. Plus older dvd's like the Lord of the Rings Extended Editions have a DTS-ES 6.1 soundtrack and having the 2 rear surrounds makes a huge difference.
