I agree. I think with a slant to the right to match the logo, it would make a very nice default avatar.

A question, would it be acceptable to incorporate copyright free icon art into otherwise original avatar creations?

Maybe not... but I think we established a few posts back that AVSForums skews towards the older crowd anyway.

Depends on what you mean by "copyright free"...

Clip art that is in the public domain cannot be copyrighted by anyone else... so IF AVSForum wanted an avatar that they wanted to trademark or copyright as their own... then they couldn't do that unless it was a completely original piece of work.

You can, however, use public domain and "copyright free" artwork all you want and for any purpose you want... but what you can't do is turn around and copyright it yourself.

Very good comments. I am very familiar with copyright laws yet I my post was not clear. Such copyright issues and personal feelings about submitting per made art to AVS were the reasons I deleted my non-totally original images.

I now ask this question since I have created composite (original + pre made, copyright free, royalty free, public domain) avatars members may select to use. Honestly, I do not know AVS copyright policy.

I guess I'm still not sure what your question is... You or I or AVSForum could use avatars composed of totally original work or composites of royalty free, original, public domain, etc.

Heck... many of us on various forums have used copyrighted icons as our personal avatars. Unless and until the owner of the copyright contacts you and says "please don't use that" then you are ok to do so.

But... what you can't do is copyright your own work if it contains someone else's work inside.

I couldn't, for example, create an AVSForum logo that uses the Atari "A" symbol and copyright it... but I could use that composition until the owners of that copyright ask me not to.

AVSForum, though, might have a pro-active policy to not risk using something owned by someone else... in which case one of the owners would have to chime in on that particular aspect.

Yeah baby!  It's Halloween!

I agree with everything you have written, My original question is a non-issue now. Any artwork submitted to AVS from me will be totally original. Thank you for discussing this matter with me.

No problem... I was just throwing as much info in there as I could think of because I wasn't sure if I was understanding your original question or not.

or here's an attempt at subdued, with minimal impact:

all all black background would be nice as an option for people
