large has nothing to do with it. Its just very weird to watch and I know most guys know what I'm talking about.. I also think my Panny ST60 has a better picture. I am no way saying LED's are garbage, they aren't. Its just not for everyone just like Plasma's.

I know what you mean - I've had 3 LCD/LEDs, all Sharp Aquos, 46" to 60". I recently sold my 60" Aquos and got the 65" ST60.. WOW cool.gif

Yep +1 me too. I might even wait until this whole 4k v. 8k mess gets sorted out, I'm tired of burning money for the 'latest greatest' gadgets, I'm happy with what I have now for a while biggrin.gif

Just finished calibrating the Sony 4K 65" LCD less than 2 hours ago, clouding is still there, the black level is nowhere near Panasonic ZT60 preview unit that I calibrated last month.

Which one would I buy? Still the Panasonic albeit it's only a 2K display. tongue.gif

Andy, i stated my case, Mark and Electrofacist filled in the blanks pretty well. Enjoy your plaz.

All the plasma clan speak to the led-lcd technology as if they are looking at the 3, 4 or 5 year old models.

Love for all things Hi-def...Losing count; 200 plus bluray, 500 plus dvd, 30 plus HDdvd and a rapidly growing 50 plus in the cloud.

Good debate guys...but led-lcd rules!

You're assuming too much Blade. I have never owned a plasma which is why I enjoy these forums. I don't have any eggs in either basket. My next set will be purchased this Fall after all the new sets have been reviewed and the dust settles. Best PQ is important to me but not at any cost. Most of the people in my price range are looking for bang for the buck. Right now it looks like the Panasonic 65ST60 is that display but I'm coming from a 60" and really want to go up more than 5". So I am looking at three possible 70"LED?LCD's. The Sony70R550, the Sharp 70LE745, and the Vizio 70" M Series. Still think I should enjoy my plaz?

Hi David, i did read and respectfully, i disregard reviews and use my own eyes to judge. When i started to shop i assumed i would be buying a plasma...until i saw what i saw. I ignore the eco-politics of marketing and reviews. Thats a good word huh? Eco...politics! LOL

Andy, you are right...i think you will be very happy in that bunch right there.

I understand. Most importantly, in the end, this is about entertainment. Don't buy into marketing. Buy what you prefer. Buy what you like. I'm just voicing my preference and observation just like you presenting your preference and observation.

Plasma, LED/LCD, OLED, Projector, etc?

Question Posed:

If you could have the Perfect Television, were Perfectly Happy with it, and it would always stay Perfect, at what point in time would you want to change it for something else?

Hypothetically speaking, never.

The problem is that the perfect television does not exist, nor will it ever. The only thing we can do is find the best current option to fit each application. For most people here that are buying a tv at this time, it would probably be one of the new panny's.. but depending on the application it may be an LED/LCD, or in the right environment a projector. Even if we are lucky enough to obtain the best option for our application, it's quite likely that something better will someday come along (most likely OLED's with all bugs worked out and at "affordable" costs) or our needs will change. Unless Your TV has magical powers, is light-years ahead of time, and has the ability to transform to meet your changing needs, this scenario is impossible.

David, agreed. All good my friend. I feel blessed to have what I have. Lots of, most peeps, dont have near what we have and would be equally knocked out if they went to either of our homes.

Thats one of the true joys of having a top flight panel of either type...your guests turn green with envy as they drool over our sumptuous panels as if a scantily clad Jennifer Anniston was plopped into their laps...

...by the way my plasma brethren, i saw the new sammy F8500 60" plasma...it was absolutely amazing.

I wonder what he refers to smooth, natural motion as. Frame interpolation of 120/240hz? Smooth? Maybe. Natural? Oh, hell no. My plasma continues to amaze me how it blows away lcd in this regard.

Ditto Blu_One...affordable in 70+ inches

Beckinsdale....yes!!!

Losservatore, if this is for me "ignore all the marketing? but was dragged by the #1 gimmick brand (monster)"...i ignored all smartTV and convergence (mostly) when i was shopping. Salespeople seem to only push bells and whistles...i had to tell almost all salespeeps that "i want a dumb tv with great picture quality".

Yes.

When I was shopping last year for what ended up being a couple basic plasmas, salesmen were of NO help to me. Even after explaining to them that I had done some of my own research and had a good idea what I was looking for AND clearly said that 3D and smart features are of zero importance (after picture only), all they would try to do is tell me how bright it is, smart features, cameras 3D, voice control, etc. After clearly telling him more then once that those were not what I was looking for, I eventually asked him to please help other customers and I would find him if/when I was ready to purchase. The problem is (and a big part of WHY LCD tech is soo popular is that a lot of people that have less interest in this stuff just walk in there blind and eat up everything the salesman tells you. I would be willing to bet that a random poll of people NOT on these types of forums would show that more people believe that a scorching bright picture is more important then black levels. IF these same people spent one afternoon doing their own online research and a few hours in front of each (in normal viewing environment), they would be shocked and confused why the salesmen fed them the b/s. It's obvious they are going to push the latest technology and whatever sets they can squeeze the most $ out of people on.. How freaking hard is it to understand that I have external devices for smart features and sound. All i want my tv to do is to provide a good picture. No other crap features and not a tanning booth, just a good picture.

sorry for the rant.

Too bad it fried itself in the Summer of 2007. (Wife: "What's that smoke I smell?").

I never really got to see what it was capable of, and wish it had lasted a little longer. We got our first FP and HD cable shortly afterwards, then Blu-Ray.

Wow two great sets for sure, top of the line wink.gif

Personally I would go with the ZT60 - you wouldn't be disappointed with the PQ on that set cool.gif

The 8500 is most likely brighter though, so depends on your viewing conditions. And you're so used to LCD it seems (which are bright sets). I wouldn't worry about IR too too much on these new top of the line displays, and the PQ you'll get compared to an LED is unbelievable, especially in a dark room biggrin.gif

I had 3 sharp Aquos LCD/LEDs, 46" to 60", just switched to the Panasonic plasma 65" ST60 and I'm absolutely loving every minute of it !

Regarding viewing angle, my previous sharps had supposedly some of the best viewing angle of LCD/LED sets, but man it was still horrible, complete washout from the side.. But on this Panasonic plasma, I can literally be almost side by side with it on the wall and the PQ is the same as when viewing it from up front, I'm very very satisfied as you can probably tell..

Good luck with your search !

Ya,not so much.. I stopped by BB last night after reading the drivel on this thread. #1 LED's are unnaturally bright. #2 The weird motion LED's tv's produce drives me crazy. They had the new Sony 4k there also. It looked really good, almost like my plasma. Avengers was playing and I didn't see that weird motion I see on others, also it wasn't bright like most LED's. It was very nice looking, but for $5999,no thanks..

Bet that 4K sony was set up right. Most of the sets, LED/LCD or plasma for that matter, are running something called vivid/store display and not at all set up like in the home. 6 grand for any TV is out of the realm of common sense.
