Try watching a bluray at home privately using virtual surround sound headphones. It will wear your ears out!!!

No effect at all, because I don't go to the movies.

I dont, period. I have found more reasons for not going listed above than I was already aware of. Plus My hearing is REALLY bad, & I need subtitles to keep the neighbors from complaining. Why is it that background noise is so LOUD & dialog is so low?? Old movies mostly are not like that. -c-

Its the remixing of old movies into 5.1. Thankfully companies like criterion know how to preserve the original sound mix as they did to on the waterfront.

I only go when thre is a risk that my brothers will go and telll me about it. Star wars, Star Trek and Iron man are examples. Optimally, we all go together..

We've had large screen and quality surround sound since 1997. It immediately cut down on theater going because my sound system was so much better I was always disappointed in the theater. Got so we would only go to the theater once in awhile especially to get that "large screen" effect. But with all the other stuff mentioned here, it got less and less. The last one was "The Hobbit" -- we postponed a long time seeing that, but finally went. Only about 10 others in the theater. I left just wanting to get the BD so I could REALLY enjoy it. And I did!

Now movies are pretty much only to take the grandsons.

I've reserved myself to only seeing big blockbusters at the movies now. Something that will take advantage of a larger screen then I have at home (116" wide scope).

It's just getting too expensive.

For most dramas and comedies, I can wait a few months until it comes out on disc.
