I'm a newbie to the photography world fueled from the passion of Promod Drag Racing. I'm investing a lot of money and time into it
and any input would be welcomed.
Hello, I am happy to join the community here. I am a bargain techie by necessity but would be a complete junkie if I could afford it. I have a modest setup of well reviewed "cheap" components in my home theater. I do a lot of research on my products because I like to get the most out of what I can get and I love to tinker. A lot of that research has left me lurking here, so I decided to join and be able to actively participate instead of just browsing. In some areas I may have some good advice to offer although I'm sure there are many expert members here who could do a better job of it than myself.
I have a large Bluray collection, a pretty powerful htpc which I built from carefully researched components and then stuffed in a cheap ugly case (one day I hope to get a nice one), Several gaming systems...mostly for the kids (360, PS3, Wii, 3DS, etc), budget but not generic tablets for the family, and lots of random gadgets such as wdtv live hubs, rokus, ethernet equipment, and more. I'm certainly not bragging as I'm sure my collection is outdated and frankly pathetic compared to some others...I only mention to give some idea of my experience with things related to the site. Anyway, I hope to learn from the community here and make even better and more informed choices in the future as well as sharing my experiences with budget gear for those that might be interested. I tend to be long winded by nature and I am usually medicated due to a condition of mine so please excuse any annoyances that may come along with the combination of the two.
Thanks for having me as part of the community here. I look forward to some great discussions.
Hi! I'm a retired aerospacer. In the early 1960s, I worked for a sound company, and did high-end (for those days!) audio and video installation/maintenance. In spite of my love for that business area, aerospace simply paid more, and off I went.
I was a big 3D fan in the early 50's. Although I'd certainly like 3D better without glasses, I've always been willing to tolerate the glasses in return for the effect. In fact, playing with polarized glasses was one of the things that got me interested in science, and was a contributer to my getting a batchelors' and masters' in physics.
As much as I like large screens, quality sound, and 3D, I'm forced to believe that the manufacturers are driven by what they can sell to the great unwashed throng, and we tend to get the table crumbs. If it won't cause a lot of people to run out and buy a new TV, proposed features are not, IMHO, likely to stay in the marketplace.
One of my questions of the moment is whether people would actually buy 3D that did not require glasses. Do they really dislike the glasses that much, or is it just indifference to whether the image is in 3D or not?

First of all thank you all for making this site so valuable. I had been a silent reader of this site for quite sometime and learned a lot.
Its time for me to work on my humble theater. I will post the work as I progress on it. I hope to have all your support along the way to make it come true.
I'm just getting my HT system going.
Here is what I have so far:

Hello all. I consider myself an informed audio/videophile, but not quite an expert on all things Home Theater. So I'm here to ask a few questions to the experts on here and hopefully become one myself!
I have installed a few Amateur Home Theaters in my town, basically just hanging TV's and installing surround sound systems. My best one was a 65" Samsung LED mounted low profile, with a full Klipsch sound system. Both the customer and I were very impressed with how it turned out and I received a few more jobs from it. I hope to do more, and gain more knowledge on the technical aspects of Home Theater and produce results. Thanks!
I've been a lurker for a while now, and finally decided to join. I am always blown away by the wealth of knowledge that is shared on this site. I am currently attempting to design my home theater, and there are SO many options available that I am somewhat overwhelmed.
I have narrowed down my speaker selection, but still deciding on a few final details...like should I go with an AT screen, are the AudioQuest Chocolate HDMI cables REALLY worth the money, and how high end do I need go on components for my needs.
My builder did not insulate the walls of my dedicated theater room, and I am kicking myself for having not caught that during the build process. I am considering ripping all of the sheetrock down and insulating, but don't know if its worth it. From what I have read it seems that insulation does little for sound isolation/dampening, not to mention, I am considering in-wall speakers (Def Tech UIW RLS III & RSS III).
This has been an exciting yet frustrating experience to date considering my indecisive nature, but I am looking forward to getting things moving forward. I would like to say thank you to all of those that have helped me without even knowing it. The AVS community is amazing, and I hope to be able to contribute to discussions sometime in the future.
