I'm Simon, I live in Belgium (so sorry for the occasional typo's) and I'm interested in a lot of things (including watching movies the best way possible!). I'm currently building a home theatre with a projector (JVC DLA X35BE) and I still have a couple of questions about that. That's why I joined AVS forum, the most helpful forum I found.
Thank you guys for all the help I am sure you will give me when I need it! I hoop to learn a lot so I myself, one day, could help someone out....

Thank you for accepting my membership here. I'm a huge music person, I've been collecting music since I was 4 years old. My family being huge music people as well, I have become an audiophile over the years and I still am today. I love stereo equipment and technology with CD's and vinyl. I'm glad to be here to share information and make music friends.
Hi everyone I'm from Brisbane Queensland been into the audio side of things since I was about 12 years old as a hobby and still finding out how little i know about hi fi lol -I do a bit of sound mixing and pa setup in my church and have been messing around building and upgrading stereo my home theater system etc for the last few years- great fun and I look forward to getting to know a lot of you guys online and learning all sorts of new interesting stuff-Im running a Marantz sr5007 with a kenwood power amp running the fronts-havn't had it set up for that long so im still fiddling with settings etc a bit. My front speakers are only rated at 4 ohms so they have doubled the output of the power amp-which is delivering it no prob and ive had to turn the inputs on the marantz right down but hey thats all part of fiddling :-) Anyway look forward to chatting with you all
I am a returning member (used to be FrankL, forgot my password and my email has changed, so I created a new userid).
Currently an owner of the Marantz 15S1 DLP.
Will be visiting more when I start looking for a new next gen projector.
Well I've been lurking this forum for a while now and reading until my eyes have burned at times! A true wealth of information here. I'm living in Knoxville TN and am currently putting together my first designated home theater room in our home. Although it's very small and on a relatively low budget compared to some of the extravegant beautiful home theaters I've seen on this forum, it's a start for us and will be great fun ad enjoyment.
The wealth of information I've already gained here has been a huge plus and I'm still reading and learning something almost everyday. So, Hello everyone!! and Thanks!! for the great info many of you have already supplied that has helped me begin this (sometimes overwhelming) process of a small HT.
Thank you for your welcoming message to this group.
Seem like I have joined the correct forum to get the information on the audio and home entertainment system.
So many information by the others uses.
Thank you for much for your effort to bring this forum success.
Thank you Scott, I am a true Music Lover and can't live without it. I am in the process of upgrading my audio system and have been a long time subscriber to Sound & Vision. As I am 56 years old I still call it Stereo Review. Just started upgrading my older 5.1 audio system and going slowly. Love good quality sound but can't resist the convenience of my Apple IPad with retina display to stream Pandora via Bluetooth to my old receiver which really needs upgrading.
Came here for the ota DTV info and found myself wanting to join. Great site with LOTS of info I've found no where else. Hopefully eventually I'll have something to contribute.
Hi, and thanks for having me.
It has been quite a few years since I had a decent sound system, so I thought I'd better set about it before the old ears gave up completely.
I'm often found hanging around tech forums, notably Apple ones, so I wanted a receiver that will handle AirPlay. The Yamaha RX-A 730 fits the bill nicely, and getting it for $450 Canadian didn't hurt either.
Speaker system is not complete yet. So far I have a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 65Ts for mains and a set of SoundStage 3D20s for surrounds. The next addition will be a Polk Audio 15c centre. Subwoofer(s) yet to be decided upon.
I doubt I'll use all of the possible connections of the Yamaha, although in the fullness of time, I may relegate the SoundStages to the rear surround position and replace them with Polk 45Bs.
Musical tastes are eclectic, to say the least. As I type this, I'm listening to Mozart's Symphony #35 by Sky and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Earlier, I was hammering the system with a BluRay version of Rush's Clockwork Angels tour. Impressive, I have to say.
Receiver: Yamaha RX-A730
Fronts: (Main) Polk Audio Monitor 65t (Presence) SoundStage 3D20
Center: Polk Audio Monitor 15c
Surrounds: L/R: Polk Audio Monitor 45b Rear: JBL SC305
Sub: SoundStage LF500
Hey all! I just joined the forums, because I want to chat with other AV enthusiasts. Vintage audio is where my heart can be found, but I enjoy tech discussions of all kinds. Glad to be here and hoping for many future meaningful discussions.
Hi, my name is Keith Ling. I'm a music lover (and some movies as well) from Alpharetta GA. I'm a former Mobile DJ and now a warehouse manager for company specializing in mobile device cases. I have over 100 5.1 audio discs, and also love High resolution music files. I own a Pioneer VSX-1019 receiver, a Panasonic BD player and a Oppo 981HD DVD player.
I have over a full terrabyte of legal music on two hard drives. I am looking for the best way to connect these to my home theater and also to rip my high rez music to these hard drives.
I was very happy to find this site. Thanks to Scott Wilkinson.
Looking forward to discovering some great ways to experience and archive. I hope I can help some others as well.
Greetings and salutations, thank you for the very warm and welcoming message, Scott! I've been a fan of avsforums for a while now and am glad to be more involved. Thanks in advance to the whole community for any information you can share with me, and my apologies in advance if I ask an already-covered question. I'll endeavor to search for queries before asking, but just in case one slips through the cracks...
I joined today to ask some questions on user experience with the Pioneer SC-1523-K 9.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver as it's on a super slick deal on Amazon and I'm looking to upgrade from my Denon 1910 for our living room HT set up that runs through an Epson Powerlite 8350 projector and 60" LG plasma.
Namely my problem is that my Denon has a lot of trouble outputting to my two devices. I figure it's because it only has the one HDMI output that I run through a 1x2 splitter. The signal still gets lost though so I just figure I need a receiver with two outputs, one for each unit. I've swapped out all of my HDMI cables, and I've replaced the splitter a couple of times, but the problem persists so I think sadly that it's the receiver that can't handle that output signal.
In terms of devices running through the receiver, I have a PS3, PS4, and my home built HTPC. It's gotten unbearable when my screen cuts off and the receiver display seems to show that it's looking for the signal again.
If anyone can tell me if I'm heading in the right direction with the Pioneer receiver that'd be really ducky. I'd like to buy that Pioneer today and start experimenting with additional speakers in the house for some hot Zone 2 action.
Not sure how many people will read this but just wanted to say "Hello." I've only been mainly using headphones in terms of audio so hopefully by joining this site, I'll learn a bit more about speakers, subwoofers, and how to set up a nice home theater. See you guys in the forums, I guess.
Hello AVS members,
My name is Matt. Was pointed here by my brother. I'm not a hardcore audio/video-phile, just no time with 4 kids jamming around the house most of the time. LOL. But I do enjoy when I have time. I have a 60" LED, 46" Plasma, and 32" LED. I have three PS3 systems I use primarily for blueray and streaming movies from Amazon. Also have an Apple TV, and three iPads. My 60" has a Samsung sound bar and sub hooked up. Just bought a house so hoping to upgrade to a true surround sound system in the near future. Also in the market for three more flat screens to outfit all the bedrooms and both living rooms in the house (just bought a 4 br house with two floors, moving from a tiny 2 br apt). Brother told me this is a good place to get digital media codes for a good price, so that is my primary reason for joining. But I'll look around and hopefully become a frequent visitor.
Hi, I have been reading on this forum for a few months now. I just recently upgraded my receiver, TV, blu-ray player and subwoofers.
This forum has been a big help in perfecting my home theater. So it's time to give back what I have learned to help others.
Thanks for having me, Eddie
