Esteemed Collegues,

I am a retired beer and wine salesman here in the Peoples Republic of Washington State. Before pushing alcohol, I was in audio both consumer and Commercial, did time as a producer and host at some classical music radio stations, and was a symphony musician (trombone and bass trombone ) which is why I sold beer and wine. One has to make a living somehow. I own some vintage gear including Sony and Tascam tape machines, a Thorens turntable and other misc stuff. My current listening is done with a H/K AVR 354, Sony CD player Panasonic Bluray player and JBL 4408's 4410's and Altec 9847 POC speakers. I use Altec 411's as VLF speakers. My Credo is "Higher Faster Louder, Bruckner Strauss and Mahler!!!

Good Wishes to you all, and always remember: Sawdust is Our Friend.

Hello all,

I just registered. I've always been big on networking, but since installing a media server I've wanted to learn a bit about transcoding video. Figured this would be the best place.

Thank you for the welcome and the opportunity to introduce myself.

I look forward to hearing the many and varied opinions of the forum members on all things audio. I hope to find an alternative to pro reviewers and those that flatter them by imitation. It's gotten to the point that I just skip to the conclusions of a pro review. I hope I can rock the boat every now and then and I look forward to any reply.

Let me say that I'm primarily interested in desk top systems. Because it's all I can fit in my living quarters now. At least there is not a good room in the house for full size speakers. So, my transducers of interest are headphones and desktop speakers or near field monitors. My source material, for the time being, is streamed music.

I'm skeptical about the "sound" of power cords, interconnects, and speaker wires.
I started in this hobby in the late 1970s. The importance attached to these items now would have been laughable then. It contradicts everything I've learned in High School or College about electricity. Some say it can be heard. I haven't heard anyone explain it. If, it does exist.

Hi all! Got brought here while working on a project to make a digital movie poster display out of a couple of TVs. I got pointed towards the MoviePosterApp that one of the users on here wrote. Very nice program, but after a bit of research I believe I'm going to use a couple Raspberry Pi units to achieve what I'm going for. The forums have been a great help so far, hopefully I can contribute a bit too.

I'm more of a "movie guy" than a "home theater guy", but want to have nice theater theamed media room... if that makes any sense lol.

Audiophile from way back, always loved music and sound since a child. My budget doesn't match my ears desires though. I have been able to appease my ears with some more affordable options for now. Maybe one day before my hearing goes I'll enjoy some really nice speakers.

Current setup is my thrift store find 4-channel Kenwood Receiver, with a pair of Polk RTi A3 Cherry bookshelf speakers, and a Polk 10" subwoofer.

CABLES ARE FOR CUTTING!

introduction

Hello AV World,

I've been viewing the forum for some time now, and have begun construction of a dedicated home theater a few months ago. I feel indebted to this forum for all of the helpful information that I have absorbed over the last few months. I may post the final progression of my theater in the future.

Hey there AVSForum!
Been lurking for quite sometime now, and am finally getting around to joining.
Picking up a new Samsung (well, 2013 model but new in the box) 60" plasma this weekend to replace my 42" plasma that has served me well for the past 5 years.
I don't claim to be an audiophile by any means, but I do like to use & purchase the best tech related products I can comfortably afford.
Looking for some calibration information for my new set and I knew this was the best place to come. I've already learned a great deal over the past few years from the kind folks on this site, and look forward to learning much more.

New member, long time lurker. Hi!

In the process of buying another house, which has a dedicated theater room, so I'll most likely be asking a lot of questions in the near future!

checking back in!

It has been a couple years since my last post but I have to say that Mark and the AVS teams suggestions for calibration and slide process has my viewing experience OUT OF THIS WORLD! My plasma is like wine...it is getting better with time. I have since added a Sony Multi Channel AV Receiver (STR-DN850), I only visit movie theaters when I want to waste money! Keep up with wonderful posts of knowledge and I too share the love with my fellow Texans who are enjoying their screens as well. Plasma's all the way!
