Hello all. Just joined the forum after a couple of google searches for what I'm working on took me to threads on this forum.

We just bought a house and I'm looking to put all my components in a storage room near where our 'theatre room' will be. Looking forward to getting some helpful hints and information on how and what to run....I'm a novice at this, but oping to to it right, on my own, and save some money.

From eastern Iowa.

Hello from Chicago.  I'm a big fan of DIY speakers, and I hope to build my own dedicated home theater room some day.  I've read dozens of helpful threads here, just finally decided to join.

AVS Members, my name is Gary and I live in Sugar Land, TX. I got on this forum indiretly by seeking ideas for a DIY flip down TV ceiling mount for my patio. I found information here that has steered me in the right direction, so am looking to contribute where I can, if I do decide to build one. I've been into light AV stuff for years, but my main hobby is more about hot rods. I do however have some old school equipment that serves us very well for loud upstairs entertainment. SONY XBR 60"/Onkyo Receiver/Hafler XL280 amp for Infinity RSBIII Reference fronts and Klipsh others.

Hi there -

Thanks for the welcome.  I'm from Dallas, TX. I'm in the process of setting up an HTPC.  So far I've successfully installed an HDHomerun Prime to my network router that has a cable card from Time Warner so I've been able to completely remove my cable box from my living room (for starters).  My goal is to find a media center that is robust enough to meet all of my media needs within one application.  I joined the forum to look around for advice on home theater PC in general and to look for other media centers.  I've found that many that have all of the features I want (J River to be my favorite so far) do not support cablecard's premium content.  I'm here to look for advice on other media centers or how to enhance windows media center a little more to improve the user experience.

Thanks!

Thanks for the tip. Many people I work with like it, but from what I've read it doesn't support premium content.  What I mean by that is digital HBO and Showtime and channels like that that come through my cablecard.

I'd check / post on the XBMC forums...you never know it may be sorted out...tons of add-ons and tweaks for XBMC out there.

Hello and thank you! I joined the forum in hopes of finding candidates for various video conferencing and AV positions available across the country. My current need is for a full time AV technician in Omaha. More specifically, talented in Crestron DM, Biamp, and Cisco Codecs.

Hi All,

I have been researching a lot these days on soundbars before I decide on which one to buy and read through a lot of posts here in this forum. I hope to make a good audio setup at my home with the huge amount of expertise that's available here in this forum.

Many thanks!

Hey Yall,

I just ordered a Raspberry-Pi and plan to build a multimedia station with it. I hope to find some interesting discussions regarding Ras-Pi A/V integration.

Hello all at AVS. I currently have a Marantz SR670 receiver from 1999 that is being replaced by a Denon AVR-3313CI, a Marantz CC-38 5 Disc CD player & a low end JVC XV-S300 DVD player, soon to be replaced by an Oppo BDP-103, a JVC HR-S2902U HI-Fi Super VHS player, a pair of 3-way Infinity speakers from 1992, and an RCA 36 inch analog TV from 1990, shortly to be replaced by a 50" or so Samsung LED TV. By the way, the Marantz SR670 is up for sale to any interested party, make me an offer. As you can see, I've a long way to go to move into the 21st century, and cash flow has kept me there awhile, but I'm working on it. I have a large & varied CD collection, including HDCD's,SACD's, & a number of Audio Fidelity & MOFI CD's, so I'm really looking forward to the Oppo. Not so much on the video end, but looking forward to being able to cut back on the Comcast plan and stream Netflix & Amazon Instant Video, to name a few. I'm going in reverse replacing the speakers last, contrary to what's recommended. Open to input on what speakers to go with the 3313CI, and the room it's going to be in is 11'x25'.

4/15/2014 Update:

I have the Denon AVR-3313CI setup now, as well as an Oppo BDP-103 and a Samsung UN46FH6030FFXZA 46' HDTV. I still have the Infinity Reference Three speakers (mid-ranges are gone and replaceable far as I know), but I'm looking at a pair of Ascend Acoustics CMT-340 SE mains as the first part of my incremental move toward 5.1. Do any of you have the CMT-340 SE mains? Care to give feedback? Again, the room is 11'x25'. I'd appreciate any input.

Hello. I'm new here but a long time Denon owner. I just purchased my newest 1613 and love the network ability. I got on this site while looking for a change log to the firmware on my 1613 as I just had an update tonight.

Thanks

Hello!

I came across this forum while researching projectors for my media room.  I have converted a small bedroom into a theater/media room.  I've attached a rough (very rough) sketch of what it is currently like.

I will be posting in the appropriate forum for further advice and look forward to hearing from others in the community.

Thanks!

(Edit) The image below is not accurate as it doesn't have my center channel speaker or any of the other electronics in the room (receiver, ps3, etc).

Thanks for the welcome Scott.

I found this site by way of my local electronics retail store.

A young salesman suggested that AVS Forums was probably my best source for up to the minute information on entertainment systems.

Based on the latest audio and visual equipment available, especially in today's ever changing world of whiz bang gadgetry, I hope to gain some useful insights into the audio/visual components on offer to Home Theatre enthusiast like myself.

My ancient, Denon AV 3801 receiver had a coronary in a thunderstorm the other day and unfortunately it couldn't be revived.

So now, I am  looking for a replacement for my trusty old Denon.

I am sure I will find all sorts of helpful advice and guidance in my search for the correct receiver, not only to drive my home theatre speakers, but to do so in a manner that leaves the neighbors shaking in their arm chairs.

I am an Industrial Electrician by trade, working with advanced computer systems, communications and heavy fixed machinery.

In my job I regularly get to play with all types of electronics, so in private life, my home theatre system and my 27" iMac are my toys that I just couldn't live without.

Regards

Bruce
