I am Candace Case, currently of Gastonia, North Carolina and want to find out more about my old Panasonic dmr-es10 dvd burner. Specifically I want to know if the tunner is supposed to pick up digital signals or just analog.

My sister, also a widow, and I just want to record a few CBS shows to watch later. The vcr is dying rapidly and doesn't get widescreen.(The Mentalist and the boys on Person of Interest seem to do ever more things in the far edges of the frames.

I look forward to learning many interesting things.

Hi Everybody !
New here !
I'm originally fron france but living in Qatar....a land where all the electronic seems to be 30% more expensive than USA...and where sellers do not have a clue about the difference between a LG 5 and 9 series..(ok I may be exagerating a bit)..

Thanks for the warm welcome!
I'm in beautiful Charleston, SC, and am cutting the cord with Comcast. I've successfully installed an indoor, tabletop antenna. To my dismay, I can't get an audio signal on 2.1, 4.1 or 5.1......but it comes in great on 2.2, 2.3, 4.2, 5.2, 5.3... in other words, the network affiliate primary broadcasts deliver no audio to my Toshiba HDTV. I'm at a loss! The Toshiba people say it's my antenna or the OTA signal. I'm thinking perhaps I need a digital to analog converter? I can't think of anything else. It's a mystery to everyone I talk to..including Best Buy, Radio Shack and my ex husband! Have you ever? BTW, the picture comes in beautifully, and I get sound from the all the PBS and FOX affils. For your consideration...........

Hello everyone here at AVS. I came across AVS while researching different type of UPS technology. I am mostly interested in audio knowledge for the time being as I am currently configuring my surround sound system; however, in the future I may be looking at other aspects as well. Such as, a new TV and computer set up. So far I'm running a 55" Element (I know not top shelf) and two towers from B&W's 600 series. Next step I'm thinking of gettinga B&W CM Centre. Unless otherwise convinced here on AVS. Thanks for any input in advance.

Greetings all. I am a semi-geek that just got newly exposed to this entire (really cool) HDTV calibration topic. I live in AZ and in the midst of my home remodeling jumped about thirty years ahead from my old 32" behemoth to a 65" Panasonic VT60. Looking forward to learning a lot from you guys about this fun stuff (...oh yeah, and in the meantime dial my TV's picture quality in) smile.gif

Thanks for the welcome Scott. Just a little bit about myself. I am retired from the cosumer electronics business, working for various manufactures as Sansui, Pickering, Panasonic, Jensen car audio just to name a few. I am still in touch with people who also have worked , or is still working for various manufacturers. I'm so glad to see a forum that I can relate too and maybe answers some questions.

Thanks Scott, I found your forum while installing my new home theatre system and it looks insightful!

Until a few weeks ago my primary system was:

Source-
Roksan Caspian M Series-1 Integrated CD Player
Mac Mini late 2012
Foxtel IQ1 (standard definition)
Amplification-
Roksan Caspian M Series-1 Integrated Amplifier
Centrance Dacport class A headphone DAC and amplifier
Sound-
Monitor Audio GS60 floor standing speakers
Denon AH-D7000 headphones
Vision-
Sony EH36M31 36" CRT (cathode ray tube, for Gen X or those that have forgotten).

That 2-channel stereo system played CD's quite well, albeit the Roksan powered MA gold series floor standers favour those who prefer music sounding slightly on the bright side. Some music sounds quite stunning with this setup. Imagine after a couple of red wines listening in awe to Pink Floyd's "In The Flesh?" the sound of aircraft flying overhead at staggeringly loud yet crystal clear volumes and surprisingly musical. However, I always found my Denon's a more enjoyable experience. Coupled with the DACport, which is a very good DAC and headphone Amp, its capabilities are consistently delightful and often remarkable. On vision, I have owned my 92kg 36" Sony since 2001. It was best in breed, retailed for $7,000 (I recall plasmas were $12,000 at the time), and a strong performer over the past 13 years. My sound and vision systems were never integrated and I have contemplated home theater systems and options for the past few years. Recent purchases over the past month have this ambition almost complete. The complete system, noting that I'm taking delivery of the rear effects speakers this afternoon, is (new with *):

Source-
* Denon DBT-3313UD Blu-ray player
* HTC One m7
* Foxtel IQ2
Roksan Caspian M Series-1 Integrated CD Player
Mac Mini late 2012
Amplification-
* Denon AVR-4520 AV receiver with Denon Link HD from the Blu-ray player
* (trialed but returned) Marantz SR-6007
Roksan Caspian M Series-1 Integrated Amplifier
Centrance Dacport class A headphone DAC and amplifier
Sound-
* Monitor Audio RX-FX speakers for surround (2 speakers) and surround back (2 speakers)
* Monitor Audio RXcentre speaker
* Monitor Audio RXW-12 active sub woofer
Monitor Audio GS60 floor standing speakers (which I plan on bi-amping using the Denon 4520 Front Wide amp).
Denon AH-D7000 headphones
Vision-
Samsung F8500 64" Plasma

Thoughts or assistance on today's bi-amping and installation project are welcome. I would be happy to provide feedback. My initial feedback is that the TV's picture is jaw-dropping. Watching Life of Pi in 2D with friends had us exclaiming OMG so constantly it became embarrassing. While the trialed Marantz AV Receiver was ok (and half the price) I knew my decision to swap it for the Denon AVR was the right one merely a few seconds after running through Audyssey. A feeling of sheer delight moved through me as the spacecraft from Alien (Directors cut 2003) passed overhead. It was breathtaking even with my girlfriend's Accent Acoustics speakers temporarily running the rear effects. It has brought to life and warmed the gold series front speakers. I now bask in DTS-HD visual and auditory glory knowing that it can only get better once the rear effects speakers have been run in and the AV Receiver is finally put to its intended bi-amping use. Armed with a glass of pinot noir I have Oblivion turned up to house thumping volumes. OMG is all I can say. Although my girlfriend adds, when are we going shopping for an entertainment unit. There's only so long I can sit everything on my old Sony CRT stand / Wooden stool combo! I'm hoping salamander designs AV furniture (see: http://www.salamanderdesigns.com/products/details/58fe9118-76c4-1d4b-ab8a-520877e1c2c1) or equivalent can be found in Australia?

Hello all,

Glad to be here and learn all I can about all things home theater. Just started setting up my very first HTPC and getting it dialed in as my primary viewing device. This site was a great help to get me going in the right direction. Front end running wmc7 with media browser and mcm for all my metadata. On the server side I am running plex so I can also remote view all my media.

Hi My names Greg I'm new here and I'm also interested in the Benq Optoma and Epson PJs this will be my first projector . I'm looking to stay under $1200.00 but I also would like a PJ with good lag time for gaming, 3D and good pic quality with a little lights on in the room. I've already purchased a 110" Elite fixed screen now I just need a PJ. The lights will not be on within 10 feet of screen .anyway just wanted to make my first post.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been a follower of this forum for 7 years back when i built my first media room and got sound advice from the experts here on equipment to use. My first purchased pj the Panny ae900u recently has broken out with hives. By hives i mean equidistant red vertical lines encompassing the whole screen. I searched here for advice and took one of the home remedy steps to no avail so am thinking it's time to purchase and upgrade to 1080p and 3D if available.

As said in the post above I've been looking at the affordable ($1k) BenQ1070 and the new Epson 2030.

My theater has a Carada precision 116" fixed mounted screen and the Panny is ceiling mounted approx 13-13.5 feet from the screen. The Panasonic was quite adjustable to fit the picture on the entire screen from that distance using its zoom and lens shift and am being told that this is due to it's zoom capability which is higher than that on the BenQ or Epson models above that i'm looking at. Is that the case?

I don't want to have to buy a new larger screen or remount the pj closer to my screen if i don't have to.

Anyway, glad to be welcome here and look to exchange ideas and seek knowledge.

Chris

Hello everyone!

I have a projector setup instead of a TV... it gives me a 9 foot diagonal screen. I've had it with providers AT&T Uverse, TWarner, DirectTV, they've all ripped me off, so I'm doing research to go Back In Time to the antenna. Since my projector has no tuner or DVR, I searching this board and others for the best solutions. If it was just me, I'd use a linux box and program a bunch of cool/crazy stuff, but to keep a good WAF (Wife Approval Factor), I need something that is at least as simple to use as what the providers provided... a multi-tuner DVR combination.
