The F8500. For the money it is the sharpest, clearest, depth filled and engaging plasma I have ever seen by a good margin after doing a side by side with a zt60 at a Magnolia room.

The colors are superb, the blacks are great and design wise superior to any other plasma I have seen.

The vt is a sweet second place for value.

Love for all things Hi-def...Losing count; 200 plus bluray, 500 plus dvd, 30 plus HDdvd and a rapidly growing 50 plus in the cloud.

I would say ZT-60 as that is what I ended up buying. VT-60 and F8500 are also good choices for Plasma.

Panasonic 60ZT60
Onkyo TX-NR818
OPPO BDP-103
KEF Fivetwo Series Model 11
SVS PC12 Plus

that's interesting. this is actually the first I've heard of somebody exchanging sets and finding one they were happy with.

if we're making warnings, it should also be mentioned that the panny's have loud fans that bother some ppl too. nothing is perfect yet

Sort of silly to have a plasma buying guide with so few options available. There are only 4 good options.

After reading the comments here for weeks & finally going to BB to check out a well set-up TC-P60ST60, it was just a matter of finding a 55" one. Received it late Tuesday & JUST started running D-Nice's slides. But, broke down & watched Avatar for a few minutes on "Custom" mode. All I can say is WOW! And will get better?

I remember the days of the Pioneer Elites plasmas being WAY beyond the average Joe's price-range. Beautiful picture running laser-disc, which I still own many of.

For the money, think I made the right choice with the 55ST60. And thanks for the welcome, Scott!!

The first and only plasma I have ever owned is the Panasonic 65ST60 and it has made me a believer in plasma technology coming from an led set. Incredible picture quality, especially after having it professionally calibrated by Chad B.

My favorite plasma tv for the current year 2013 is the Samsung F8500. It has an outstanding picture quality. Clarity, sharpness, rich color, brightness, deep blacks, all contribute to the gorgeous picture and makes it versatile in many environments. Not to mention its non reflective dark bezel and cool stand design is very well suited for todays industrial contemporary interior styles.

Samsung PN51F8500. Marantz SR5008. Oppo BDP 103D. Sony BDP S5100. Emp Tek E55TIB LR, E5CIB, E55WIB. Sennheiser Momentum. Sennheiser 598.

My 50ST60 died on day 4, so I got a 60ST60, and out of the box, 5 pixels from the left, top to bottom, a very ugly line (dead pixel.) Got a 55ST60 (limited stock on these TV's in Alaska), and has been flawless. I'd complain about it more due to the 2 bad ones I got, except the picture quality is so fantastic I still recommend it to everyone.

I don't know if terrible is the word I would use. Two years ago both Panasonic and Samsung had problems with their line ups (one had terrible buzzing the other had fluctuating brighteness). My LG PZ750, while honestly not having as good of picture as either one, was half the price and didn't have any annoying problems. The picture isn't terrible by any means (in fact the only problem was the blacks aren't as black as they should be) the color is however is pretty spot on. FWIW, that link that comfynumb posted can be had for around $600 for a 60" TV that looks twice as good as most LCD for three times the price and more than likely with 5-10" less screen size.

After extensive researching and reading ended up getting a Samsung PN60F5500.

I'm coming from a 57" rear projection CRT (RPCRT) with a super tweaked picture, so PQ was very important. The best overall PQ for plasmas is simple between the Samsung F8500 and the Panasonic VT60, but of course these are top tear TVs, and can't go wrong with either one.

Just below these I would say are the Samsung F5500 and the Panasonic ST60. These are still superb tvs just a notch below. And if you are not afraid to tweak and customized your picture there are tweaks for the Samsung that will take the black levels to top tear type of PQ.

I'm very satisfy with the Samsung F5500. Plasmas have come a long way in the last couple of years.
