Having used many different Blu-ray players over the years on my hdtv's, projectors and surround sound systems, my owned favorites are as follows:

OPPO BDP-83SE (analog absolutely great, video great)
OPPO BDP-93 excellent
OPPO BDP-103 excellent +3D, 4k option
OPPO BDP-103D excellent + 3D (video processor / darbee solid visible improvement),+ 1 hdmi "in", 2 hdmi out. 4K option
OPPO BDP-105 excellent + 3D top sound, video + 1 hdmi "in", 2 hdmi out. 4k option
Samsung BD-U5000 excellent for blu-ray /& hd-dvd.
(note: run hdmi out to OPPO 103,103D,105 hdmi"in" and HD-DVD 2.25 WS movies are excellent thru OPPO blu-ray players)
Cyberlink-PowerDVD13 excellent *3D thru Dell XPS 710 LQ computer.

OPPO service, state of art, product quality, manuals quality, shipping box quality is incredible. price worth it. Enjoy!

With latest displays out, refresh speed, size. make any one of these on your "I want list".

Still waiting for a affordible 4k, passive 3D projector & affordible 4K smart hdtv.

I have the Oppo 103.

Unfortunately, it does little with the Sony XBR-65X900A 4k tv, so It's hard to comment.

It plays Blu rays, that's about it. They are perfectly clear.

The sony does a better job at 3d simulation, and also does a better job at up-scaling in my opinion.

One advantage the Oppo does have is that it has more options to change screen size over the Sony tv.

Oppo's customer service is AMAZING !! One good reason to buy it!!

No question, the oppo. I am a total idiot for not buying one sooner. Faster and better picture quality.

SONY S790

PRETTY MUCH SAME PICTURE QUALITY AS OPPO, AUDIO IS EXCELLENT , DUAL CORE PROCESSOR, HALF THE PRICE OF AN OPPO.
NOT BUILT NEARLY AS WELL AND DEFINITELY NOT AS REFINED AS OPPO.

Getting the Oppo BD 103D soon. Right now my Samsung BD F7500 is doing a pretty good job.

Another vote for the PS3 slim. No problems, controlled from my Harmony 1000 remote. Just got my new PJ and will now see the movies a little different from the PS3. Not interested in 3D right now, maybe in the future.. good thread, keep it going.

Just upgraded to the Oppo BDP-103 a couple of weeks ago, and I am loving it so far. My only complaint is with the Netflix interface, which usually goes in and out of HD, and sometimes fails to load at at all. But, I didn't buy the Oppo for Netflix, and AppleTV streams flawlessly. Plus, I run the AppleTV through the Oppo, and get to take advantage of it's processor.

I need to ask you a question.

I also have the same setup as you, however I have a 4k Sony tv. So i do not realize how good the Oppo up converts.

I tried using the Oppo 2x4k option, but found that there is no difference between what the  Oppo can do and what the Sony tv can do.

You claim that with another tv you can really see the difference?

I find Most Apple tv movies are not that good compared to the Blu ray version. What do you mean by flawless?

I think Apple tv Picture quality compared to blu ray is much inferior. Same goes for Netflix.

I upgraded to a 103 from a JVC XP-BP1 that I thought was very good. The Oppo has noticeably better picture quality IMHO.

$10,000 for the Ayre? I don't think so even if I was loaded with cash. For that price it better have a surveillance feature for my entire home with automation too lol.
I much rather spend the $10,000 on quality speakers or even on a descent dedicated media room.
