Resist buying a new projector. Must hold out for a 100" TV.

Considering what I spent in 2013 (I don't even want to add it up), I think the discretionary funds this year will go towards home improvement projects. We are looking at enclosing our formal living room and turning it into a music room.

Here's the A/V gear I bought in 2013:

Yamaha 3010 AVR
Klipsch Reference speakers
HSU VTF-2 sub (my first one needed a friend)
75" Samsung TV (my first 3D TV)
Xbox One
Playstation 4

I'm guessing my A/V spending may be lean for quite awhile. I have no idea how I talked my wife into all those purchases. biggrin.gif

In the order I am hoping to purchase these

1-AudioQuest Leopard Tone arm cables
2-Pro-Ject Audio Speed Box S
3-Pro-Ject Audio Phono Box RS
4-Build passively cooled HTPC

first two I should buy relatively soon, the other two probably in late summer.

I think this thread should be renamed to "What shiny new equipment do you plan to buy in 2014" tongue.gif

All kidding aside, I plan on upgrading to a 3D-capable receiver, and I also need to replace my existing sofa that has been scratched to hell by one of my cats. Also on my radar as a 'nice-to-have' is an SVS SB-2000 sub smile.gif

Technically it is, But OR is on record as saying, technically they need at least Full 4K resolution to accurately deliver 1080P 60 per eye...on a consistent basis...with minimal lag.

2014 will be a year to de-clutter and minimize things in the HT room and bedroom.

But first things first, I need to build a new, larger AT screen and the big purchase for 2014 is a new projector. Besides that I will acoustically treat my HT room and black out the walls.

Maybe new surrounds. Probably some rear subs. biggrin.gif

My Dual 18" LLT subs 120dB down to 10hz

3) Get a darbee for my projector setup.
4) Possibly cut the cable cord (Football and baseball are the only things holding me back).
5) Maybe upgrade my center channel from an LC1 to an LC2.

Oh and MAYBE attempt a CIW setup once 1) is complete.

Well, 1 and 3 didn't take long...

I'm interested in cutting the cable cord (satellite for me) too.  If/when you do please update the relevant threads.

Just ordered AudioQuest Leopard tone arm cables(RCA to RCA). Also ordered AudioQuest Sorbogel Q foot to minimize vibration on the turntable. I purchased and received Pro-Ject Audio Speed Box S. Will be working on the HTPC project now.

Just last year I started to upgrade my system. Purchase another Martin Logan decent sub online, picked up some power cables. This year 2 more power cables from Kimber Kable and XLR interconnects. If things go well this year a Exactpower 15a or I'll pick it up next year.also like to pick up Equil=tech don't know which model yet, and future upgrades a new Pre-Pro Processer, Blu - Ray Player, and eventually a new display. It's definitely going to take awhile to replace most of my Equipment .

Bump - it's time to come clean for all those who made these New Year's A/V Resolutions!

I've got 1 item done and 1 underway (door install) of my 9....still 3 months left for me and others to get these done.

I'd like to upgrade my main Dynaudio L/R with the next size up and move the current ones to the surround position.

There's a good chance this will happen. Once that happens we'll have to see how the system balances out. Will I need a second sub at that point, I doubt it since the room is so (relatively) small.

Theater seating.

I'd like to add some more diffusion to the room treatment mix since the theater room is so dry...absorption is so much easier and less expensive than diffusion.

I may DIY some sliding doors with room treatment over them to prevent reverb from the nether regions of the house, my decay times are not the best.

A better job to support this stuff

A few years from now I'd like to upgrade the Kuro to a 70" equal quality panel.

Like a lot of other folks in this thread I am limited by the home layout. Somewhere down the road I'd like to upgrade the home, likely move, less likely remodel. The current location is so ideal but I can't see remodeling the place unless it's one of those one wall remaining remodels, the layout is just that bad.
Well okay then.

Since January I added in the following order:
1) Bass traps for ceiling corners were added soon after writing the wish list in January
2) A second sub was added in May

The ceiling corner bass traps made a big difference, they're acoustic foam and look fine in subdued lighting. If I wanted to dress them up I'd make grill cover frames to hang over them or buy 4'x1'x1" acoustic panels to hang over them.

With the second sub I changed my crossover point from 60Hz to 80Hz. I like the sound and it plays louder without strain and was less expensive than upgrading the L/R mains...which I'd still like to do but it's not happening this year. The room response is much more even. Since writing my wishlist in January I read a number of posts about more even room response with 2 subs and I'm happy it worked out.

If I have any extra money to spend on the HT I might get some diffusers to replace some of the absorbers in the room. Absorbers are is less expensive than diffusion so that happened first, I'll switch some panels out when I get he dollars.

I notice that it's the less expensive items on the list that are happening. Rather than an major HT upgrade I upgraded my picture and video editing computer.

Cheers

Well I resolved to get my wife to give me more _____ in my HT, and of course I was completely unable to accomplish that. You can fill in the blank yourself but there are many many many words that could fit and would not result in an infraction point. Then again there are many that would.

About 20 years ago, I got a framed picture of them, signed by both, and gave it to her as I think a birthday gift. I know what to do, I just can't hit a curve or a slider anymore.
