2014 is here and A/V enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to. Whatever your plans may be—upgrading a TV, cutting the cord, setting up a 7.1-surround system, adding a subwoofer, tackling a DIY speaker build, or even constructing a basement home theater—we want to know about it. Now is the time to make that commitment. So, what are your A/V resolutions for the new year?

It's a new year. Will you resolve to build the home theater of your dreams?

My New Years resolution is to save up enough money for JBL PRO Cinema 3677s for LCRs and a third HSU VTF2 MK4 subwoofer to add to my other two.

My resolution is to stop spending so much money on the theater and do what I want to do on the house! I know that sounds crazy, but I have put so much money into my theater since I moved into my house a year ago. Time for the rest of the house to get special treatment. wink.gif

This year Ill start planning the first upgrade of my theater in 8 years. I got in at a good time for 1080p and things such as DTS/DD 7.1. Got a great receiver and projector that has probably 20,000 hours+ on it. But now its time to start looking for that next "standard" that will last me the next 8 years.

I'm waiting for the UHD standards to get set to buy a new UHD projector (when the price comes down) that has 3D. I'll also need to find a nice solid receiver to match. The key is to hit that "moment" when you can get the gear and know it will support technology for the next 5+ years.

I'll also continue to replace my Polk speakers peice by peice to Paradigm. Next step is the center. Ill probably replace my Ps3 with an Xbox One (for its streaming). I have a PS4 now but since they killed its media streaming ability, its not in the theater as my primary media device.

For me, until there is a 65" or larger OLED that is relatively affordable, the only AV I intend to spend money on in the next couple of years is finishing a computer based music server for my 2 channel set up. I have the DAC which is only doing red book CD at the moment, but is ready for a Mac Book Pro onto which I will be adding a ton of CDs and some new downloads from the new AP high rez site. The rest of my music spending will be on live jazz and classical concerts.

Front projector and 110inch screen for my basement home theater on the way this month. It has been many years but I finally decided to pull the trigger on a projector. I am also getting two more speakers to go 7.1. That's my 2014 plans.

I will also try to limit my spending on additional gear, 2013 was expensive but very fruitful. I'm going to focus on dialing in what I have even better.

Got that book 7 years ago. Nice reading for a while. But after listening to the "new" masters of 2009 I was very disappointed that they did not go back to the REAL 4 track masters and remastered them accordingly to the 2009 standards. To equalize the old stereo masters is the worst possible solution for these pieces of music history. Listen to the Love DVD-Audio and you know what I mean.

P.S. I spent around $ 2,500 to upgrade my HTPC over the last 15 months. I believe 2014 has to be a year of enjoyment and less of spending.

Cheers

I don't have a New Year's Resolution so much as a "first quarter of 2014 goal:" buy a new home in a part of town that's as walkable as where we live now, that cuts both of our commutes (or at least doesn't increase them...) and has a nicely sized/proportioned living room with windows, doors, fireplaces (if applicable), etc. that allow for optimal placement for a multichannel music system (LCR, side surrounds, perhaps rear surrounds but that would be icing and not a requirement) with multisubs and a decent-sized listening area.

To finally get that crown up in the theater. It's the last piece to an otherwise amazing theater that my family loves.

Don't you agree - it needs the crown! smile.gif

Probably for me just a PS4 and XBOX One some point throughout the new year.

These and some new/upgraded power cabling. Along with a few more audio/video grade fuses that i have slowly been introducing into my system over the last year.

I have no plans to get rid of/downgrade the new KRP500M 9.5G plasma that hasn't even got to 900hrs yet since i was fortunate enough to pick one up last July.

An OLED in few years minus the obvious early gen hiccups/quirks we are witnessing today will be the only display worthy of a direct replacement.

And hopefully by then these will be genuinely OMLL.
