Looks like Panasonic stuck to their guns when they decided to not participate this year.

Agree, that's a pity. Maybe they are holding off to enter the AX900 in the 2015 Shootout.

I am excited they are testing larger sets as that is what I'm in the market for and have found other review sites not reviewing the larger model tvs.

I was hoping the 79" 900b would be in the shootout as this set along with the sammy 78"uh9000 are my top contenders (wish the Vizio P or R series came in the same size).

Wonder why Sony decided not to build a 79" 950b model as the 85" price premium is huge. Would love me some large FALD tv.

I only see one real contender...just hope they can manage to start production in time.

At least they've decided to see if the various sizes of TVs in a given model offer consistent performance ahead of the shootout. That's a good first step. I'm not sure what criteria they're going to use to pick a size though.

  • Vizio M652i-B2 65" Direct Lit LCD/LED w/local dimming
  • Sharp LC-70UQ17U 70" Edge Lit LCD/LED'
Has there been any news since then? Do we know if either the Vizio M65 or the Sharp 70UQ (or bot) are 'in' yet???

Robert told me we're looking at Sunday or Monday for a final list, at which point I'll publish a new article.

Nope and I'm pretty much done asking—I trust that when whatever needs to be figured out gets figured out I'll get a heads-up. When it happens, I'll act on it immediately.

I posted a new article in the "Flat Panels General and OLED Technology" section. It's also on the AVS homepage.

With these behemoth sizes added to this year's event, isn't it time to change to a larger venue? His B&M is too small to do this properly...............

Does anyone know the start time for the Sunday shootout? I've seen two conflicting times, 1PM and 3PM.

I thought Robert had mentioned 1PM.

Do a google search for the livestream it's the same address as last year they do a live stream then a few weeks later post it to YouTube. Can't post the link as it's a blocked site.

Wow, that's late. Guess it's an all-nighter for us Europeans who want to follow the stream.

There is always Sunday it's a few hours earlier. Of course it's impossible to have a time work for everyone. Last years I believe was around the same time.

The snacks will be most welcome, as there won't be a whole lot of time on Sunday between getting home from church and leaving for Scarsdale.

It just occurred to me that my display options would be limited if my PRO-111 decided to die tomorrow. I have a fixed space to deal with, and if any of the TVs strike my fancy I'd have to hope they come (or will come) in a flavor that's max 57" wide, probably a 55" or 60" screen at best. That's big enough for my room, though.

The OLED form LG is 55", and there is a 51" f8500....if your set holds out a few weeks, then you may have the Vizio P series (50, 55, 60) to choose from as well...

I'm wary of OLED for longevity reasons so I wasn't thinking about it much, though in terms of screen size you're right. I'd have to hope the set isn't wider than the aforementioned 57" though.

My Kuro is chugging along nicely, showing no signs of trouble. I use only ISF Night mode, so no undue demands on the power supply. But I believe in being aware of other options should I have to make a move.
