What? Its not a Home Theater if one person is able to listen? Since when?

I definitely agree that a home theater for one viewer is still a home theater. I've been to an actual movie theater where I was the only person in the audience, I don't think that It stopped being a theater just because one person was watching the movie.

That's the thing with analogies: They are only an approximation of the model; I wouldn't use them for "definitions." smile.gif

I understand what you are saying though -- the "intent" of the design of theater implies that multiple people can enjoy the movie / play experience -- traditionally, yes, that is the colloquialism. cool.gif

However, only one person watching a movie doesn't make the experience any less real; limiting how that experience is conveyed based on requirements for X equipment seems completely arbitrary to me. rolleyes.gif

Yeah, analogies basically start off the tracks, and usually go downhill from there...

To me, a theater has to have sound in the open air, even if only one person is actually sitting there watching it...

If something such as DTS headphonex were built into receivers I would probably do a lot of listening to movies in my "theater" with headphones.

In our family room we have a 2006 Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi for a 7.1 speaker system.

In the living room we have a Yamaha RX-V387 AV receiver for a 3.1 speaker system.

Powering the stereo in-ceiling speakers in the office, the living room, and the master bedroom there is a two-channel Sony STR-DE185 receiver.

Denon 4000 used as a preamp into Emotiva XPA5.
Just have a 5.2 setup atm. I may add heights later and use the Denon for those.

I use a THX certified 9.2 TX-NR1007 AVR from Onkyo.

The only bummer is that it's a 2009 model and the smart phone apps only apply to 2010 models and newer...

But I still love it!

Chose it because it was the cheapest AVR on the market with the combination of Audyssey MultEQ XT (top-of-the-line then) and the assurance of THX Ultra2 Plus certification. It was the price|performance winner IMO, because couldn't see any legitimate added value in the two models above it in Onkyo's 2009 lineup.

It was killing me that I now had to wait til we got home to hook it up. Amidst all the beauty of the mountains, I could not stop thinking about the receiver waiting for me at home…

Been lovin' it ever since!
