What Is Your Next Home-Theater Purchase?

Inquiring minds want to know what you plan to buy next for your home-theater system. TV? Speakers? AV receiver? Take our poll!

AVS Forum is a great place to find help selecting the best audio/video components for your needs and budget and then setting up those components so they look and sound as good as they can. This naturally leads me to wonder what our members are shopping for.

So I ask you—what is your next home-theater purchase? A new flat panel or projector? A Blu-ray player? Part of the audio system? As always, I'd love to read more details in the comments. What makes and models are you considering, and why? What components do you already have that will remain in your system?

If you haven't participated in our previous home-theater system polls, I encourage you to do so:

What is your main video display?
What AV electronics do you use?
What is your main speaker configuration?
What source devices do you use in your main HT?
Where do you get your movies?
How many separate subwoofers in your main home theater?
Where do you place your subwoofer(s)?
What device(s) do you use to stream video?

I may or may not buy but I'm looking for a new SSP that uses Dirac (versus Audyssey or any of the rest). I would purchase IF I can hear it in my room with my other equipment and it sound much better than what I currently use. I am not hopeful.

Options are (1) Theta ($20K), (2) Datasat ($23K); (3) PC running JRiver and Dirac into an SSP but bypass the SSP room correction system and (4)if it ever gets released, the Emotiva piece. Neither the Theta or the Datasat are in my budget unless I win the lottery (is it necessary to enter?).

I'm good everywhere else!!

SVS PB-2000. Don't know exactly when that will happen (could be a few weeks, could be in the fall), but that's my next gear purchase. My current sub (Boston Acoustics PV900) has served me well, but it's long in tooth (10 years old) and will be re-assigned to lighter duties in the living room.

Did you read Home Theater of the Month this month? The owner built an incredible HTPC running JRiver and Audiolense, which is comparable to Dirac. Here's a quote:

"I worked extensively with fellow AVS member desertdome on the design and equipment needs," David recalls. "We discussed at length the source components and channel configuration. He offered to build a home-theater PC for me featuring JRiver Media Center and software program called Audiolense XO, which is a digital sound-correction program that offers an amazing amount of EQ." In fact, Audiolense does all the time- and frequency-domain correction for multiple locations, crossovers, and bass management. "It is comparable to Dirac Live," David says, "but with the ability to handle more channels with manual control of more parameters and routing. Audiolense creates a file that is loaded into JRiver similar to how a 3D LUT [lookup table] file is loaded into a video processor. I can create many different Audiolense files and have JRiver automatically load them based on my criteria. For example, 2-channel media can use different bass management and correction than multichannel."

I'd like to replace the 60" plasma in my main home theater with a 60"-65" Dolby Vision LED-LCD set. Maybe the Vizio Reference 65".

I just got a new receiver and new speakers last year, so I'm good on that front. I'm still super happy with my PS3 which I use for most of my video watching needs. I am a bit tempted to get a new TV though. However I'll probably wait a few more years before I do get one.

Sony Bravia 46V3000 (1080/24p); Playstation 4; Playstation 3 fat 60GB; Playstation 3 slim 160GB (upgraded to 320GB); PStwo; Focal Sib&Cub3; Denon AVR-X1000; Philips DVP5990 (1080p)

I will probably invest in a UHD/4K TV when the time is right... I was considering sticking with Samsung but they've poured all of their best specs into the curved range, which I'm simply not interested in, so it looks like it's going to be Sony that will get my hard earned dollar although I haven't ruled out Panasonic's UHD TV as I've heard some pretty good reports from those in the know...

I thought about this for awhile and realized that maybe we are in a lull of new and "got to have" technology. My theater is fully equipped and while it is lacking 3D capability I'm perfectly happy. Once you have a good projector, sound system and source material something has to come along that is a leap in performance to motivate me. I don't need anything right now. Didn't see that option in the voting.

I am pretty well set with major equipment. My next purchase is to buy a RAID system for my media server. I am using a Baetis HT server. I know this is not part of the poll so please forgive me, but if you get rid of a conventional HT preamp and use a HTPC, and your speakers are not powered, how the heck to you connect the amps? It may be a dumb question but I am just curious about that.

It ain't easy being green.

At this point, unless something breaks(knock on wood), nothing. Maybe in a few years I will spring for a new display to replace my 141. An affordable FLAT 70 to 75" OLED would do just the trick!

i'm thinking about a UHD screen for HTPC usage (for gaming and other PC stuff too).
so maybe the ax800 if it does a proper work at this field.

but looks like i wait for OLED or a year and i grab a ~1k euro headphone first.

I essentially replaced my entire HT since we moved to our new house in January of '13. Replaced my 40" LCD with a 60" plaz, replaced all my tsi/ monitor series Polks with RTi series, added surround backs and a 2nd sub and replaced my AVR. My next purchase will be an AVR with more juice to better power my RTi8's and CSi5. My wife always shakes her head and says "when will it end!?" I just shrug and say "it probably won't."

I've been trolling Ebay looking for that good deal for "something" to buy.. New Blu-ray player, new amp, new xyz device.. Funny thing, yesterday I was watching some movies and demo discs (superleo) and I was really impressed of what I currently have. My desire to upgrade is really to "keep up the Joneses".. Joneses meaning AVSForum people.

I've put away my credit card and have decided to visit sites like AVS, Blu-ray.com, etc, etc, less and less. I'll only visit when I actually have an issue.
When you see other people theaters which look "better" than yours, you get envious and convince yourself you need to upgrade..

My next purchase will either be 2 Paradigm ADP3s or am amp for the home theater. Most likely the ADP3s though. However for the bedroom, I am waiting for the 4k 55" Vizio to come out.

Edit: Well, I bought the ADP3s yesterday so next year an AMP is up next.

My next purchase was supposed to be the Pioneer Elite SC-72, until I realized the 4K spec only covered resolution at the time. My disposable income is at a premium(I have 5 children), so my purchases have to last. Thus I have to wait until Pioneer releases their $1k-level receivers that have the 4K/60Hz/wider gamut capabilities. I've heard AVR manufacturers typically wait until fall or later to release their upper tier models......but I've also heard Pioneer may be getting out of the AVR business. Big disappointment because their class D amplification is the #1 reason I want a Pioneer over Marantz or Denon(more power, less heat, less weight, less energy consumption).

If the new "HDMI 2.0" $1k-ish receivers don't come out this fall, then I'm getting new speakers. I am heavily leaning towards the Chane A2rx-c for my LCR's. They lie specifically at my desired nexus of price and performance. My aging Energy XL-16's need to rest in peace.

Most likely my next purchase will be an Atlona Pro3 6x6 HDMI/HDBaseT switch to complete my video distribution, then an audio switch and amplifier to complete my audio distribution. When Dolby Atmos becomes available late this year/next year, I will probably make that leap as well.
