What Is Your Favorite Music-Streaming Provider?

Streaming music isn't the ultimate in quality, but it's a great way to discover new tunes. If you stream music, which provider is your fave?

Last March, I posted a poll asking what is your favorite video-streaming provider. Now, I'd like to ask the same question about music-streaming providers, which typically offer on-demand subscription and/or Internet radio. As you might imagine, on-demand services let you select anything from their library at will, usually for a monthly fee. With Internet-radio services, you specify the type of music you want to listen to, and they deliver it at their discretion, which is a great way to discover new music in genres you prefer.

Do you listen to music-streaming sources? If so, which one is your favorite? As with video, there are way too many options to list here, so I've included a few of the bigger ones. if your fave isn't listed here, select "Other" and let us know what it is in the comments. And those who don't listen to streamed music at all have an option just for them.

Rdio lately. You should also ask "What is your favorite music streaming device"?

I have Sirius in my car and got free internet streaming when I renewed. So I listen to Sirius on my iPhone.

Does anything even come close to Spotify? Grooveshark was nice, but that's gone now.

Spotify for me because in my part of the world that is the only hi fi streaming service.
Now it would be something if they can offer lossless streaming for the same price ..maybe i'm asking too much.

I ticked "other" for iTunes Radio, which probably should be one of the poll choices.

I've been using Spotify Premium for the past six months or so, and it's pretty awesome. Selection is great, 320kbps quality sounds very good when streamed to my stereo, and I love that I can save albums offline so I can listen in my car.

Ive been enjoying Tidal for the last month, found out about it reading Stereophile. I use it with my Bluesound Node and my Sonos system, the lossless CD quality is great. I also like the offline feature for use with my iPad or iPhone.

I just signed up for a 30 day trial of Deezer Elite. It's CD quality streaming, Good selection of tunes and great sound quality. If you prepay a year it's only $10 a month. So far I am really enjoying it.

I am also a user of Pandora One for about the past two years.

I voted other but really it depends on the reason I'm listening.

I use:
Pandora for background music and if I hear something I like then I use...
LastFM/Spotify to listen to the album and see if I want to buy it on a high quality format then...
Amazon MP3 when I want to let someone I know listen to something I purchased from Amazon but...

If I just want to sit down and listen to music I put in a CD/SACD or...
If I want to listen to an orchestra I get in the car and drive to the local symphony hall, nothing like the real thing.

On occasion I'll also stream the local Jazz station from their web site.

Cheers,

I use Google Music, I have since day 1. however I don't use its radio function, I simply use it to stream back my own stuff I have uploaded to the cloud. with 400 gigs of free space its pretty amazing
I only ever listen to it when im at work (headphones) or in the car, if im at home im playing of locally stored music

I've used Pandora a lot going back 5 or more years, but T-Mobile gave me a free subscription to Rhapsody with my service plan, so I've been using that more and more.

I also stream my own music via my own Plex server. I don't have to worry about syncing playlists to my phone any longer; all 700+ of my CDs are available losslessly wherever I go - the beach, tailgating, a jog, etc.

My big problem with most of these is the lack of true family plans. Xbox, Rhapsody, etc. all fail. I am on a 5 user / 10 device plan with Beats for $15 a month. I'm not sure they offer than plan any more with the Apple purchase, but I'm grandfathered in.

These services are dynamic and it is hard to keep up with changes. Has anybody come up with a family-type plan to rival Beats?

Oh, and Slacker should be a choice. They don't get much respect but for music discovery they are good.

I use Amazon because I have almost my entire CD collection loaded there (it's a matching service like iMatch).

But I much prefer to listen to my FLAC files on my Emotiva XMC-1.

There is a iheart symbol on the the post but no poll selection. Anyway, that is what I listen to. Its free, and I listen to a station called Rock Nation that I like a lot. I can also stream it with my iphone and then connect it to my cars Pioneer Nav unit via blue tooth and listen to it in the car.

Pandora. Combined with the Oppo 103D, the app is easy to use and the sound is good.

On the road, just use my own music from my android phone.

I buy CDs from Amazon (which include a downloadable MP3 file and the ability to stream via Amazon Music), and I use Spotify Premium for all else. After being a heavy user of Pandora (free) and trying out Spotify, I only use Pandora for background music on the house stereo now b/c I’m able to play it via my AVR using the Denon App on my smartphone. My AVR doesn’t have Spotify… However, Playstation recently released the Spotify app and I’ve begun using that as well. The user interface is awful, but it’ll do if you know what album or playlist you want to listen to.

My living room budget build: Samsung PN51E530 / Denon AVR1613 / DefTech PC1000 / DefTech PM60 / DefTech ProSub 60 / Dayton Sub1200

I like Pandora because of the manner in which it pattern-matches preferences and suggests new music in a manner that is based on musical properties rather than marketing/sales data. Since I got a couple of stations "trained", I have found that it presents me with a lot of new (to me anyway) artists to try out where the recommendations are very high quality. (I used to use XM's "Music Lab" and "Beyond Jazz" for this - but then Sirius bought XM and it went straight to !&*# and those stations died. I certainly hope that, if Pandora dies, they manage to preserve the Music DNA project somewhere.

Amazon Prime. Strictly because I already have a Prime account, so I don't have to listen to commercials. Otherwise, I find the app implementation less than stellar.

RDIO, switched after Grooveshark died.
I find that it tends to have more of non top 40 music on there than the competition.

I use Google Play only because I can access specific songs as well as my entire digital library and not rely heavily on a random playlist. I will say, their "in the mood for..." stations leave a lot to be desired. Pandora isn't bad if you just want to let it play and not have to worry about changing songs. I haven't had much experience with any of the other services on the list.

I voted for Pandora because that is the only streamer that I listen to. Now that my eyes have been opened to others, by this thread, next time around I might vote for another,

I will have to take a look at Spotify
