Poll: How Do You Primarily Listen to Music?

There are lots of ways to consume music. I'm curious as to where and how you do your listening. Click this link to read more, or simply vote in the poll located above this post. I made it multiple-choice, just in case you feel no one option covers your situation.

Full sized system....

100% of the vote!

OK, I am the first voter so that might have something to do with it.

When the wife is away, it's the full surround or stereo system. When the wife is sleeping, it's headphones. When I'm on the road for a long journey, it's CDs in my car's stereo system.

I like to actively listen to my music. I'm not one for background music as I'm doing my chores. That's what talk radio is for.

I didn't see the option for "AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE", so I went with full-sized stereo or surround-sound system.

Definitely in the minority here, but I do not really listen to music that often. Sometimes in the car, but usually it is audible or a podcast.

Where's the all of the above button?

This is a tough one since primarily is what you spend the most time with. It would be a little easier to answer if it was worded as your preferred method for listening to music.

I may be in the minority, but I rarely listen to talk radio anymore, so I'm constantly listening to music whether it's in my car for the 1 1/2 to 2 hours I spend commuting every day, to the couple hours I might be able to sneak in some time with headphones at work, to the wireless system I'm using while doing things around the house and then to the time when I can actually sit back and intimately listen to music in my family room.

Aside from attending a live show, which I'd be lucky to do once a month, listening on my full-size stereo would be my preferred method. Love the intimacy of headphones, but can't wear them for extended periods of time.

I listen to music primarily on a full-sized stereo / HT system and in my car. Occasionally I also listen on headphones. It's all good.

Music is a destination activities for me. Treating it like so much aural wallpaper only does the art a disservice. I cannot stand listening to music in the background, because it distracts me from the task at hand. So most of my listening is done seriously, at home, in front of the big rig. The rest of my listening is on the move in the car, or on vacation. Color me old-fashioned or out-of-touch, but anything less than a hi-res mobile device loaded with at least CD-quality music is a travesty of audio justice!

I'm taking my meds !!

Thumbs up

I'd love to have 2 systems, one for HT and one for music. However due to lack of space I have combined both. My CJ preamp handles the music and w/the HT pass through I play my movies.

Tough to choose just one. However, I voted with headphones. That said, I do listen on a blutooth speaker when cooking, or in my car with my son, and even on my HT setup. But, I do prefer the intimacy of good cans (can't wait to get my Grados back).

Up until about 1 month ago, 99% of my music listening was done in my dedicated theater/listening room. But now, with Amazon Prime and Pandora music streaming through a Sonos system in our family room, THAT has become a new and surprisingly fun new to enjoy ALL KINDS OF MUSIC ..... and my wife gets to enjoy it as well. Furthermore, we now listen to more kinds of music.

LOVE technology !!!

Critical listening on full sized home stereo. Quantity wise definitely my car. Counting to and from work plus errands it's at least an hour every day. It isn't as good as my home setup, but I do have a nice Alpine/JL Audio system.

This being AVS forums, I'm not surprised at the result. I can almost guarantee if you post this poll on another, non sound system enthusiast forum, the results would change drastically. Most people I'm sure listen in their car, with ear buds being 2nd. I'm the only one I know besides those on these forums that actually just sits down and listens to music.

My 2.1 computer setup (Elac UB5s and an SVS SB12) gets the most pure music listening time, as I almost always have something going on either as background or with my full attention if something catches my ear.

Once it's finished my dedicated 2-channel listening and relaxation room will get some good time I imagine.

I mostly listen to Audible in the car.

I use my Amazon Echo to play music or ambient sounds to go to sleep to in the bedroom.

Headphones are for the gym or for use on planes.

I picked headphones but it's actually split up more than I thought. Often times if I'm listening to something for the first time it will be either through my Sennhieser Momentums or through a pair of wired Polk bookshelf speakers connected to my AVR's zone 2. Once I'm familiar with something I'll sit down and listen to the CD on my main system in my living room.

Last week however proved that listening to music however you can makes certain experiences infinitely more tolerable. I work for a company that does snow removal in central PA. We got 30" of snow and I spent the better part of 42 hours over three days in a Caterpillar skid steer (with heat thankfully). Luckily I reached in my pocket early Tuesday morning and found my pair of cheapo skull candy earbuds that I normally just use for a metronome when playing my drums. They saved my entire week.

Quality of listening time listed higher than actual time listening.
2 channel system in my home office
1 hour plus round trip commute on a (blushing with embarrassment) stock stereo in my car
~3-4 hours a day on crappy computer speakers at work
occasionally get to use my surround sound system to listen to music.

My favorite though is going to concerts, as many as possible! Going to 4 so far this year:
The Damned
The Pixies
Steve Martin/Martin Short (unsure if this counts as a concert)
Depeche Mode

May add more as the notifications come in

I need music every day. If I'm not listening to music, I'm listening to stand up comedians, or watching comedies. Music and laughter keep me going.

I don't do dramas, and try to avoid drama in my life as well.

More free demographics for Vertical Scope to send off.

I'd love to listen to music in my HT room but .... I never do in actuality. Mostly listen in the car or using headphones at home or on a walk.
