I shine a flashlight through the front panel, hold it right on the surface and it should be easy to see, also sometimes the manual has a good picture of where it is located.

A camcorder with nightvision mode makes it extremely easy to see through the panel. But if you don't have one, a flashlight works too.

The IR sensor will look like an LED, except it'll probably look black. They typically have a metal shroud around them.

If it's a DCTxxxx box, it's on the far left side of the oval display. If it's a newer DHCxxxx box, it's above the ch+ button. I really wish they would have put an IR input on the back pannel.

yeah i have a camcorder, i tried the night vision thing but i could only see the emitters on the remotes, never on the receiving devices. Anyway, I took each of the boxes up to the sun and then I saw the IR receivers, so I made my connections. so far so good, thanks for the help

they really should mark off the IR sensor on every electronic manual. thats just rediculous to have to hunt for it.

If all else fails, have someone stand in front of the gear and take a 3"X5" card and move it in front of each piece of gear until the remote stops working. Then fold the card in half - now a 3"X2½" card and narrow it further. Finally your thumb or similar will nail it down. (Would that be a thumb nail? )
