The new AARX18G from Acoustic Research has been delayed till September 2009. No news on why the delay. Can't wait for this remote to hit the retail market. Hope this time it will be out in September. Last I heard this was going to be release in the Spring 2009. I was going to purchase the Harmony 1100,but saw this on the web 2/24/09 and wanted to wait for this remote. Everything sounds good about this remote. Harmony watch out! You Can go their website to find out more information www.araccessories.com
This is still the best remote i have ever used in my 30 years of enjoying this hobby. I have tried almost every other one available. I am on my 3rd one now. I justy programmed the lightly used one i just bought since a couple of the buttons are starting to stick on my other one. Now i have 2 fully programed for a pretty complex theater ( all programming done by learning ) As i get older my eyes are not as good as they used to be but this is really easy to read. I cant say enough good things about them.
Couldn't agree with you more. I have 12 devices in my theater and the only one I can't use with my Xsight, is my PS4. I even have it working with my Fire TV (bluetooth) by using an ir dongle in the USB, which works perfectly. I try to move this thread up every so often to keep people aware of this as a terrific affordable option. Using RMIR, this remote is incredibly powerful and I have found myself really enjoying the programming.
I'm having a heck of a time getting RM or RMIR to run on any of my systems. I used to have it running maybe 8 months ago with no issues. But since then I've had to re-install my OS and now it seems on either my HTPC or primary desktop, both using Win 10 with latest updates, won't run the program.
I can get the scripts to run correctly and make the shortcuts, but everytime I try and run RMIR or RM, it doesn't even boot to a splash screen, just appears to crash instantly.
I've reinstalled Java multiple times (both trying the JRE and JDK packages), tried to put the RM folder in different locations, run as admin, etc.....all getting the same result.
I know its probably something basic and easy that I'm forgetting, but could someone please help guide me in the right direction? Is RMIR compatible with the latest versions of Java?
Not sure if this is the best place to post for help, but I just got a JVC x590 projector and I'm looking to use my Xsight remote with it. I checked here for a device file, but the only JVC projector listed is the RS1, which didn't work on my x590. Any way to program this remote to work with my new projector?
Oh, I'll check on the IR learning when I get home. I thought I needed the old defunct software to do IR training, but can the remote do it stand-alone?
Learning has always been on the remote. There's nothing the old software did that RMIR can't do except access the UEI device database directly. But we can access the UEI database through the SimpleSet website.
Keep in mind the learning IR sensor is at the bottom of the remote, not the top like most remotes.
Once you learn the JVC remote, post your RMIR file at hifi-remote, and I can convert it to a device upgrade file, and you can delete your learns.
What is the benefit of me using this upgrade file and replacing the learned commands I have programmed in? Or is the file mainly for the benefit of others that could use it?
With these remotes, not a whole lot. An upgrade makes it slightly easier to organize what key does what, and upgrades are usually a 'cleaner' signal that a learn (meaning the duration of what is sent out is exactly the same between every key).
And, now that the remote is identified, there may be special commands not on the stock remote as Dave offered that you can make use of.
On older remotes, the main reason was memory space. But the XSight has TONS of memory so it will never be a problem.
On the projector, power on and power off are separate buttons. Is there a way to combine the IR code that is sent out, so that I can have one power button do both? I figured that if I could somehow program the main power button to send the power off command followed by the power on command, then I could use the same button for both functions.
I realized I missed the OK button on the projector, and I also learned all the remote commands for my Onkyo TX-NR686 receiver. Could you create a new device file for the projector, and a new one for the receiver?
Onkyo codes seem pretty generic, I built my TX-NR555 set from some other Onkyo Update set and incorporated some codes from an Onkyo Master file. Should work fine on your device too I'd have thought. You can always add an odd learned command to it if anything new is missing. Attached.
@andrewilley, Thanks! I can confirm that your file is an exact match with his learns, as expected. @BlueWRXPride, I've updated your projector file with OK. Just use Andre's file for your Onkyo. Your XBOX and CHROMECAST match his Game and Streambox functions. Feel free to rename your functions as you wish. To confirm other matches, compare the Subdevice and OBC in Andre's file with the same on your Learned tab. You'll see a few bad learns that didn't decode properly. We already know the correct codes for those in this case since we have Andre's file. But if that happens in the future, just learn them again.
@mdavej - I ended up getting a Marantz SR6012 instead of the Onkyo. Is that simple enough for me to make my own device upgrade, or should I learn all the commands and then pass it along to you to make a device upgrade again? Very much appreciate the help!
Well I gave in to peer pressure and recently decided to move on from the Xsight 18 to a Harmony Elite. I spent more than an hour trying to get the Elite to transmit basic commands to turn on my theater components. The Elite was slow in turning things on (when it worked at all), takes forever to update when adding or updating devices and is simply not very responsive. I sold the Elite and went back to my Xsight and have been happy ever since. Also, the Harmony database is really hit or miss on a lot of devices. The Xsight / Nevo remotes are still the most versatile out there and they do IR (with RF transmitters) as well as any other remote. In my opinion, if you do not need IP, bluetooth or direct RF, they are still the best remotes available. Finally, the open source software (Remote Master) also gives you more control over the remote than any other software available.
I'm hoping I can get some help again. I have a cheap RF LED remote (here) and I'm trying to get my Xsight remote to control it. I trained all of the buttons to the remote, and when I test it out, all of the buttons work except for the brightness control. I trained the volume up and down buttons with a quick press on the original remote, and I trained the up and down buttons by holding down the buttons on the original remote. But neither of those work, and that function is the most important one I want. Can any of you experts take a look at the file and see if anything jumps out at you? File can be found here: http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=25649
RDMU files don't contain learns. So I don't see anything. You need to replace your file with the RMIR file.
But my guess is that you have global volume lock assigned to some other device that's overriding your Vol key learns. Just turn that off on the general tab.
Sorry if wrong to ask here. My first message.
One quick question.
I want to record IR codes from a Satellite receiver to be used with my Slingbox. I know the Nevo C2 would work for that.
Will the Nevo C3 or Xsight Touch work for that function too?
I was thinking that basically would come down to decide if I want rechargeable battery vs using my Eneloops with the C2.
C3 means and extra plug taken by the charging base or maybe as I write this I never considered. Can the C3 be charged via the USB socket?
And another question (sorry, hopefully the last). I have some LED light strips controlled by a remote which I guess must be RF (no Zigbee, no Bluetooth, no Wifi).
If I get the C3 and RF extender (which I could get for same price as C2 from eBay for my location). Has people been able to control this kind of lights from the remote?
For the reading in this threads I appreciate you are super helpful mdavej.

I have some LED lights which came with a little credit-card sized remote control (infra red) to set the colours and effects, and the Xsight Touch (same as the C3) works well with them. You just need to get it to learn the IR codes first, and then assign buttons (or touch-screen items if you want descriptive labels). The RF-connected IR blaster/extender devices are fine too, they just re-transmit the same IR codes that the main remote sends.
Devices which receive RF only would be a lot more difficult as you can't learn/program RF commands directly and it's unlikely your lights would understand the RF signals.
Does the extender for the Xsight or Nevo remotes include any kind of addressability, where remote keypresses are only transmitted via one of the IR blasters, or is every remote keypress transmitted via all IR blasters? Is there any kind of pairing between the remote and the extender, or would two different remotes transmit all of their commands to any nearby extender? Thanks very much.

No, as far as I know it has no smart features. It merely relays any Xsight Touch RF-transmitted codes that it receives to all of its IR extension blasters (plus there is an IR sender housed within the unit itself, if you don't want to connect the mini cables). There is no pairing or other clever features, just an all-or-nothing on/off option to enable or disable all RF transmissions from the handset itself.
