The Harmony can only do things otherwise possible with original remotes.

Just to clarify: You want to switch the receiver's input/output setting (e.g. from say "DVR" to "ATV" or something like that) while the receiver is off?
I don't know of this being possible with any receiver; although I wouldn't be surprised if some receivers could do this in standby. I just haven't seen any.
Do you know for a fact that you can do this if you use the receiver's original remote? If you can do it with the receiver's remote, then you should be able to "learn" that function on the Harmony. If you can't do it with the receiver's own remote, then it's not possible. Program the activity to turn the receiver on, switch inputs, then turn it off.

I’m thinking on getting the Harmony 650. Here’s my setup: I have a xfinity x1 cable box connected via HDMI to a Vizio SB4051 sound bar. The sound bar is connected via HDMI to a Vizio M75’s HDMI 1 (ARC). On HDMI 2 of the TV I have a blu ray player. Really simple stuff. I am using CEC and ARC. My question is can the Harmony handle this as is? It seems I read that the Harmony has trouble with ARC. Will the remote let me program my on macro for Watching TV or Watching Blu ray? I prefer to use ARC. Thanks.

Hello, my Yamaha can switch input in standby mode. I can do that with the original remote but I am not able the replicate with the 650

The Harmony software allows the 650 to learn commands from the original remote. I'll look up later on how to do it exactly, but you should be able to do it.

I would use 2 Yamaha devices, but set one to have no power commands. Use the second device in activities for when it's supposed to stay off.

Huh. I suppose my Yamaha rx-a2020 can do that too, then. If so I'd forgotten. I have no need for such a feature, as I always us the receiver for sound for any function with the tv/ht.

You should be able to have your Harmony learn a new function from the original remote.

Hi all, "new" 650 owner as of yesterday (bought one cheap to try from an eBay reseller.)

I asked in another thread but haven't got an answer yet, didn't see this thread until this morning.

I'm happy with the 650 with one question: should the "activity" buttons above the screen light up when the backlight is on? Mine don't and it seems as if they should. Neither do the ones beside the screen, but I was told that those do not light up.

It's not a big deal but didn't know whether I should ask the seller for an exchange or a discount on some more (I bought one to try with the thought that I'd either buy more or try something else for 2 or 3 different systems if it worked out.)

Edit: another question popped to mind. I use NiMH rechargeables (either Eneloop or Duracell, which seem to be the best available) in pretty much everything that I can because I'm sick of alkalines starting to leak even before they go dead and forcing me to perform triage on my tools and remotes... The 650 is working fine on NiMH which is great; will it charge them if I leave the USB cable plugged in, or do I need to remove the cells and charge them on a charger?

In the meantime I'll be reading through this thread...

thanks!

I've never seen it advertised as having a built in charger... if it did, alkalines could explode or cause a fire if the remote was left connected to USB . . .

There is a model 700 however that has built-in rechargeable batteries. Otherwise it is identical to the 650.

To anyone interested in a Google Chromebox or Chromebook..
Be aware that these boxes run a variant of Linux and DO NOT support HDCP!!!
This means no support for HD on most streaming services. I wish I would have known this beforehand....

OK, didn't know as I bought this used w/ no docs and am still learning about it/getting it set up. Got it way cheap off a certain auction site; I'm happy enough with it I'm considering picking up a few more. There's probably better products overall for what I want but it's a great deal and I'm overwhelmed with remotes ATM

The 700 uses AA just like the 650. But it comes with 2 NiMH AA and has a USB charger. I've got no idea if the 650 could charge NiMH or not.

Just got my new 650 today and did the normal initial setup via USB and MyHarmony of my pc desktop. I quickly found all my devices, and went through the first Watch TV activity. All good.

When I disconnected to test it, it worked pretty, except for two obvious misses (wrong TV source and wrong audio source), for which it self corrected when I pressed Help. Impressive.

Questions:

1) Now that its all working, when I connect to the PC next time, is it smart enough (I suspect yes), to sync in the right direction, and pass the the "fixed" changes from the remote to MyHarmony?

2) Are my MyHarmony settings saved anywhere on my pc? or they just on my remote and in the cloud somewhere. I would like to back them up locally if I could.

No, it is essentially a one-way sync. From the computer/MyHarmony account TO the remote. But I believe that there is a Troubleshooting area in the MyHarmony software where you can indicate that your remote is not controlling certain devices, and it will walk you thru fixing what's wrong.

The settings are not stored on your local computer. They are stored in your MyHarmony account in the cloud.

Thanks.I will try Troubleshooting next and hope that keeps it all fixed and in sync. Seems to me that 'fixing' things in general, on the remote, is kindda useless , if its going to get overrwritten, on the next sync.

It doesn't really "fix" anything on the remote. When you press Help on the remote, it walks you through a one-time questionnaire to help you fix what Harmony assumes is a one-time problem. For anything other than that, you would use the programming tool MyHarmony to effect a long-term fix.

Except for delays, which I would assume would stick around as long as you don't remove the device the delays were adjusted for.

Is there a way to rearrange the position of the functions displayed on the screen? For example, I see the LIST function on page 3 of a cable device; can I move it to page 1?

EDIT

I asked because I did not see it in the manual..., but I see now there is a totally different MyHarmony support area that answers my questions, ie https://support.myharmony.com/en-us/...remotes-screen

I purchased my first 650 and set all my devices and activities in no time. All activities work fine except Watch Blu-ray. My LG BD570 Blu-Ray does not accept any input commands from the 650. I went thru the process to teach the remote Directional Left, Directional Right, and Eject commands. The software accepts the commands and I sync the changes but it still doesn't work. I'm using the MyHarmony software on my Mac and running all HDMI thru a Denon AVR-x2100x. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

How do you change the order of the activities that appear on the remote?

They are shown correctly in MyHarmony, but are in a different order the remote. Watch TV, the one we use all the time, is now on page 2. How do I get it to the first position on page 1?

Why not just use the 'hard' button near the top left of the remote when you want to "watch TV" ?

Because in a dark room, you cannot read that button at all (and its right beside the off button), whereas the colour screen is big, bright, easy to read and prominent.

Also just make no sense that:
-the software and the hardware show the activities in different orders
-the order on the remote is random and cant be reordered.

I gather from additional googling, this is an issue that:
-many customers are annoyed with
-used to be in the software and no longer is
-logitech is simply not fixing

Ok, that's a good enough reason

I'm at my office (not at home) so I can't just go look at mine. I know that I have re-ordered Devices and Functions. I *think* that I have re-ordered Activities, but I can't remember for sure. In any case, I always use the "hard" activity buttons, not the screen. I can look at my 650 when I get home (about 4 hours from now) if you haven't received an answer from someone else before then . . .

There is a workaround to the activity resort that I found at the bottom of this page : https://forums.logitech.com/t5/Harmo...es/td-p/822933

Gonna give it a shot tonight.

Gonna give it a shot tonight.
Unless your remote is about 4 years old, that's not going to work. You can't create new accounts on the old members site anymore. Haven't been able to for years. Even if you could, it would wipe out all your programming so you'd have to start from scratch. If you start from scratch, you can put the activities in the proper order as you go. So may as well stick with myharmony.

Nothing to do with old members site.

I am refering to the Dec 31, 2014 workaround, excerpt here:

The activities list is made up of two parts. First are activities that do not have a hardware button assigned, followed by activities that do have a button assigned. Within each part of the list, the activities are ordered in the same order they were created, oldest to newest.

Getting the exact activities you want, in the order you want, can be accomplished by duplicating some of the hard-button activities without assigning any button to the duplicates. I now have seven activities, which appear in this order:

"Roku"
"DVD Player"
"Digital Music"
"Play CDs"
"Listen to Music Button" (duplicate of Digital Music, but assigned to a hardware button)
"Watch TV Button" (duplicate of Roku, but assigned to a hardware button)
"Watch a Movie Button" (duplicate of DVD Player, but assigned to a hardware button)

Because the first four activities were created in the order you see them, and have no hardware buttons, they appear on the first two pages. The remaining three just hang at the end of the list, and I never have to see them, but they're there to give the hardware buttons something to do.

To keep things straight in your head while you create the activities, I suggest deleting all your activities in MyHarmony and starting fresh. Create new activities in the same order you want them to appear; add duplicate activities at the end of the list for the hardware buttons to use; then use Buttons > Customize Activity Buttons to assign the hardware buttons to the duplicates. Sync and enjoy.

I just tried it, using MyHarmony, on my new remote, and it worked!

It's really shameful Logitech has never implemented a fix for this. A simple page is all that would be needed to reorder the activities. Just pure laziness.

Gotcha. Glad it worked out. I thought the activity order at creation was common knowledge. I thought you wanted to re-order after the fact without starting over. That's what the old members site did.

Really pleased with this unit, minor hiccups aside. Part of the learning curve.

I have one anomaly I am still trying work through and that's when I Watch TV. The activity is set for HDMI4, but when the actual sequence starts, it goes to HDMI4, then to HDMI3, then back to HDMI4. Not a big deal as it eventually gets there, but odd nonetheless.

What I tried so far:
  • Recreating the activity - no difference
  • I cannot 'learn' the button as there is no hard button on the Samsung remote.
  • I might have the hex code for it, but my understanding is that the 650 doesn't accept hex codes.
  • I tried exploring adding/fixing a button, but when I select the tv, there are no dropdowns for HDMI3 ( on HDM1, 2,3). Yet it knows there is an HDMI4 when I pick a source in the activity
  • I read a tip on another forum (for a different remote) that said " I used the advance efc code 176 for HDMI4 and it worked, using code setup 0060" . I have no idea what that means or if its applicable to the 650.

Thoughts?

They are shown correctly in MyHarmony, but are in a different order the remote. Watch TV, the one we use all the time, is now on page 2. How do I get it to the first position on page 1?
I know you've found a solution to this, but just for reference my Activities are (Page 1/2) Watch Smart TV & Watch TV, and (Page 2/2) Watch a Movie.
I don't recall the sequence in which I set up Activities in December when I bought this remote.

To anyone interested in a Google Chromebox or Chromebook..
Be aware that these boxes run a variant of Linux and DO NOT support HDCP!!!
This means no support for HD on most streaming services. I wish I would have known this beforehand....
