I just switched upgraded my receiver from a Yamaha HTR-5960 to a Pioneer VSX-1021-K. My rope light located behind the plasma used to be connected to the switched outlet on the back of the Yamaha. The new Pioneer does not have any outlets.

I'm looking for a way to be able to switch the Rope Light on/off using my Harmony 700. Since my receiver is inside a cabinet, the rope light was an easy way to tell if the receiver was on or off.

Any suggestions on a cheap device that would allow me to slave the rope light to the receiver?

One of these should do the trick.

http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Conserv...ef=pd_sim_hi_1

http://www.amazon.com/Smart-Energy-S...p_ob_e_title_3

http://www.amazon.com/Smart-Strip-Pr...p_ob_e_title_1

So the rope lights would power on and off in tandem with the receiver. So no direct control of the rope lights with the 700. If you want IR solution there are some cheap IR controllable outlets available on Amazon, but I wouldn't say they are as robust as the solutions above.

How about using one of the 5V outputs on the back and a relay similar to THIS (<$3)?

Thanks, I think this is the direction I'll go. I read an amazon review on the belkin that said that his Pioneer receiver drew too much power for the belkin to recognize that it was off but that the Smart strip was able to recognize it.

Thinking about it, I actually don't want to be able to separately control the lights with the 700. That will defeat the main purpose of the rope light which is to show me if the receiver is on or off.
