Ignore everything below. It turns out there are also IR blasters going to the closet so I no longer have to use the next gen remote.

New Question: I have the L5 system and I created macros where I push one button to watch TV, another to listen to music, and another to turn everything off. However, I don't like using an ipad/iphone to do this. I'd prefer to have a simple 4 or 5 push button pad with macro learning that sits on my desk with an IR blaster. Does this exist?

In my bedroom, bathroom, and den setup I have a complicated setup where it's partially direct IR to a device below the TV that sends it to 2 devices and also partially through a wireless Next Gen IR system (linked below) that sends IR to two receivers in a distant closet. Right now my setup works as is but with mutliple remotes. Is there a one remote solution that will allow me to program "Watch Directv" and "Listen to Music" macros that get sent through the remote's IR while also having two seperate volume adjustments that are sent through the battery via the next gen system?

I have an L5 iphone system that I play around with that I can create a remote that could have all the stuff I mentioned except sending the IR via battery because it doesnt have any batteries. Any ideas? Will I likely need two remotes? Are there any simple remotes that I could possibly program the volume buttons to control one of the receiver's volumes and the channel up and down button to control the other receiver's volume while still being able to program macros?

This is the closest thing I've found so far. How is it emitted though? IR? RF? How could I direct the IR to the front of a room if I keep it facing the side wall. I want to put it on my nightstand facing the bed and not move it. However, it needs to shoot IR to the TV area at the front of the room.

THIS thread has some good mainstream remote options for you. Good table top remotes as you've described are going to be expensive. Consider models like the Harmony 1100. I've never heard of the one linked, and it looks awkward to use. If you want something like that, check out some old Prontos or even an iPad, iPod or smartphone.
