I'm looking for the bet iPad app and controller that can act as a remote for my a system that is Ina rack I another room with tv over the filers place. Is this possible? If there isn't an app and controller, is there a touch screen universal remote that will show functions of denon receiver [including the Internet radio and zones]l. I do have a remote extender right now so I can use there remotes to control the pieces in the rack....

Thanks......

If I'm correctly deciphering your somewhat cryptic first sentence, I think that one of the iOS-based apps such as iRule, Roomie, DemoPad, etc., would give you what you're looking for. Check out the related posts here on AVS and also the relevant app providers' sites - they all list compatible equipment models and provide connectivity guidance. Even if your specific Denon model is not supported out of the box, you can commonly locate the control codes and get things running pretty quickly.

All of the leading iOS control apps give you the option of choosing IR, IP and/or serial control. Your existing equipment will determine if you need to buy additional hardware (such as an IR blaster, iTach, etc.).

Most of the iOS based programs seem to use a single ir blaster. That will not work as all of my equipment is rack mounted and needs those stick on ir devices. that's what I have now with my ir extender. Also, since the tv is in the main room, the iOS device needs to be able to control it as well... Now sure how.....

Part of my setup is very similar to yours - a rack mounted stack of equipment and a TV on another floor - the rack is controlled by a combo of IP, serial and a single IR blaster that delivers IR codes to several pieces of equipment + the TV uses IP. I also control my whole-house music system and my dedicated home theater equipment thru my iOS app (Roomie) even though the units being controlled are distributed throughout the house. I guess I'm not sure why you say "...That will not work as all of my equipment is rack mounted and needs those stick on ir devices." - maybe my mental model of what I think you're looking for is different from what you actually want?

Anyone else care to chime in?

That is how it should be done. iRule can handle it too. You'll need to purchase some additional equipment. Start reading the iRule thread here and also the www.iruleathome.com site.

My guess is that when the OP stated he needs the stick on ir devices, they were thinking that the iOS apps work only with the IR blasters? Not sure...

Thanks,
dr

You'll need to search for the specific LG model you own on the iRule and Roomie sites (plus any other apps you may be considering) - but in general terms, you have several options: If the TV is IP-enabled then you need to determine if you can get (wired or wireless) access to your home network. If it isn't IP controllable you probably need to go with an IR-based solution - you can look at running 2-conductor wiring to the TV or if it's inaccessible for additional wires, you can use something like a Global Cache iTach wireless device to hook into your home network and use a discretely placed IR-blaster to flood the TV (several iTach models don't need to be physically attached to your network, so you have a lot of placement flexibility).

There are other options and permutations, but those will be predicated on your TV model and where you have it installed relative to your control and networking equipment).

I am note sure about the rest of your equipment, but for the Denon-

Down load the $7.99 DeRemote APP

It is outstanding. If I could find apps like that for all my other stuff I would be very happy

already have that. The official denon app works better... But the one you mentions is also great!
